Senior Python Backend Engineer Waukegan, IL (Onsite Tues-Thurs) W-2 Contract through EOY (expected renewal) Job Summary We are hiring a Senior Python Backend Engineer to support our Fortune 500 biopharmaceutical client, where agentic AI capabilities are being built into their IT Service Management (ITSM) platform to pick up, diagnose, and resolve IT tickets end-to-end. You will develop production-grade, headless Python backend services and APIs that power automation workflows and integrate with ServiceNow – reducing manual L1/L2 support, improving speed and consistency, and enabling a scalable automation model across enterprise IT operations. This work is 80-90% backend Python, with some React/TypeScript for internal admin tooling used in production. Key Responsibilities Build, extend, and support headless, production Python backend services and APIs that drive enterprise IT automation across ITSM workflows. Develop and maintain ServiceNow integrations operating in live, production enterprise infrastructure. Contribute React/TypeScript to internal admin portals used to oversee and govern automation behavior. Own production readiness, including logging, monitoring, debugging, and incident support. Lead code reviews, enforce backend engineering standards, and mentor junior and nearshore developers. Deliver work through formal Scrum ceremonies, including daily standups, bi-weekly sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, with delivery expectations tied to committed sprint goals. Collaborate with Product Owners and Business Systems Analysts to define stories, acceptance criteria, and definitions of done. Challenge designs and patterns that are not production‑ready, push back when approaches do not scale, and propose better solutions within real-world enterprise constraints. Required Qualifications Senior‑level experience building and supporting production-level Python backend systems and APIs. Demonstrated experience developing in large, highly structured enterprise Agile environments. Strong background in logging, monitoring, debugging, and supporting real systems in production. Proven ability to own code quality, mentor junior engineers, and push back on bad patterns. Experience with frontend technologies (e.g., React, TypeScript) for supporting internal or admin tools. Comfort operating within delivery governance, SLAs, and cross‑functional stakeholder expectations. Must reside within commuting distance of Waukegan, IL and work onsite Tuesday-Thursday. Nice to Have Exposure to LLMs, agentic frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI), or production use of LLM APIs, including personal projects. Experience integrating with ServiceNow, Remedy, or other enterprise ITSM platforms. Experience building and running backend services in AWS production environments. Familiarity with enterprise IT infrastructure domains (compute, networking, DNS/DHCP, load balancing, monitoring tools).
