SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our OB/GYN inpatient team working nights and weekends.
This role is ideal for for APPs who are passionate about hospital-based obstetric and general surgeries and thrive in a collaborative, high-acuity environment.
This is a 100% inpatient position with no outpatient clinic responsibilities.
Position Overview:
The APP will provide comprehensive inpatient obstetric and gynecologic care, supporting labor and delivery services while collaborating closely with OB/GYN physicians, maternal fetal medicine physicians, resident physicians, and nursing staff.
This role focuses on labor management, OB triage, emergency department and inpatient consultations; offering the opportunity to practice at the top of your license in a supportive, academic-affiliated environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and support labor and delivery patients
Perform patient assessments in obstetric triage
Assist with cesarean sections
Provide gynecology consults for inpatient and emergency department patients
Conduct postpartum and gynecology rounding
Manage phone communications for antepartum, postpartum, and gynecology patients
Collaborate with OB/GYN physicians, MFMs, residents, and nursing leadership
Participate in high-quality, evidence-based obstetric care aligned with ACOG and SMFM standards
Schedule & FTE:
0.8 FTE (32 hours/week)
Night shifts: Monday to Friday 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM
Weekend shifts: Minimum of one weekend per month
No call schedule
Shift based role only (no travel required)
Workload may vary; on call OB/GYN physician backup is available for high volume or complex cases
Some scheduling flexibility available
