About
As a Physical Therapy Assistant at Avera Health, you will provide hands-on patient care, including therapeutic exercises, gait training, balance and coordination activities, and the use of therapeutic modalities as directed by the Physical Therapist. You will closely monitor patient responses to treatment, document progress accurately and timely in the electronic medical record, and communicate changes in patient status or concerns to the supervising Physical Therapist and the broader care team. You will educate patients and families on home exercise programs, safety, use of assistive devices, and strategies to support continued progress after discharge.
You will collaborate daily with Physical Therapists, nurses, physicians, occupational and speech therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to support coordinated, patient-centered care. Consistent with Avera Health’s culture of compassion, hospitality, and stewardship, you will treat every patient and family member with respect and dignity, providing encouragement and clear communication throughout the rehabilitation process. You will help maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized treatment environment, assist with scheduling and patient flow, and ensure equipment is used and maintained correctly.
This position offers an opportunity to grow professionally within a supportive healthcare network that values ongoing learning and development. You will participate in staff meetings, in-service education, and training on best practices in physical rehabilitation. You may support orientation of new staff or students as appropriate to your experience. Flexibility, reliability, and strong teamwork skills are essential, as you may work with a diverse patient population across inpatient, outpatient, or post-acute settings depending on organizational needs.
The ideal candidate is a graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program, holds or is eligible for state licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant, and maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. You bring solid clinical and technical skills, strong interpersonal communication, and a genuine commitment to improving patient outcomes. By joining Avera Health, you become part of a mission-driven organization dedicated to delivering excellent healthcare services and positively impacting communities across the Upper Midwest.
