About

Avera Health, a regional health system based in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a dedicated Physical Therapy Assistant to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will work under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to provide high-quality rehabilitative care to patients across a variety of settings. You will assist in implementing individualized treatment plans designed to improve mobility, relieve pain, restore function, and prevent disability following injury, surgery, or illness.
The Physical Therapy Assistant will carry out therapeutic exercises, functional training, gait and balance activities, and use appropriate modalities and equipment as directed by the Physical Therapist. You will observe and document patient responses to treatment, update patient records accurately in the electronic medical record system, and promptly communicate changes in condition or concerns to the supervising therapist and interprofessional care team. Collaboration with nurses, physicians, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other members of the care team is essential to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
A key aspect of this role is patient and family education. You will reinforce home exercise programs and safe mobility techniques, provide instruction on the use of assistive devices, and support patients and caregivers in understanding therapy goals and progress. You will encourage patients with compassion and empathy, helping them stay motivated and engaged in their rehabilitation journey while maintaining the highest standards of safety and infection control.
At Avera Health, you will work within a culture that emphasizes compassion, hospitality, stewardship, and respect for the dignity of every person. You will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to improved patient outcomes while growing professionally in a supportive, collaborative environment. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical setting.
This position typically involves a combination of outpatient and inpatient or on-site clinical work, with regular interaction with patients of diverse ages and medical conditions. Flexibility, strong communication skills, and a commitment to evidence-based practice are important. Avera Health offers opportunities for continuing education and professional development within a broad network of hospitals, clinics, and care facilities across the Upper Midwest.
