About
Intermountain Health is seeking an OnCall MRI Technologist for Weekday Nights and Weekend Coverage to support our Healthcare & Medical Services department in delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging to patients across our Utah-based hospitals and clinics. In this flexible, as-needed role, you will operate MRI equipment to produce high-quality images used by physicians to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality. Working primarily during overnight weekday shifts and on weekends, you will receive imaging orders, verify patient identification and history, screen for MRI safety contraindications, and explain procedures to reduce anxiety and ensure informed consent. You will position patients accurately, select appropriate imaging protocols, and adjust technical factors to optimize image quality, minimizing artifacts and repeat scans. You will collaborate closely with radiologists, nurses, and other care team members to prioritize exams based on clinical urgency and to clarify protocols when needed. Responsibilities also include adhering to all Intermountain Health and department policies, including infection prevention standards, MRI safety zones, and emergency procedures for situations such as contrast reactions or code events. You will handle contrast media safely, follow established protocols for venipuncture and IV placement if within scope, and carefully monitor patients during and after contrast administration. You will be accountable for accurate, timely exam documentation in the electronic health record and PACS, proper labeling of images, and effective communication with ordering providers when clarification is required. In alignment with Intermountain Health’s culture of excellence, compassion, and integrity, you will provide respectful, patient-centered care, supporting patients with limited mobility, managing claustrophobia, and adapting communication for pediatric, geriatric, and culturally diverse populations. You will help maintain a safe and efficient work environment by performing routine equipment checks, reporting malfunctions, maintaining MRI suite cleanliness, and managing supplies. As part of our commitment to innovation and continuous improvement, you will participate in ongoing education, competency validation, and quality improvement initiatives that enhance imaging quality, workflow, and patient satisfaction. This role is ideal for a technologist who values teamwork, is comfortable working independently during off-hours, and is motivated to contribute to cutting-edge healthcare solutions in a mission-driven, community-oriented organization.
