About
In this role, you will carry out established treatment plans by guiding patients through therapeutic exercises, gait and balance training, and functional activities tailored to their individual needs and goals. You will apply physical agents and modalities such as heat, cold, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation as directed, while carefully monitoring patient tolerance and safety throughout each session. You will assist with transfers, positioning, and the proper use of assistive devices, ensuring that patients and families understand how to use recommended equipment in both clinical and home settings.
You will be responsible for accurate, timely documentation of patient treatments, responses, and progress in the electronic medical record, communicating observations and changes in patient condition to the supervising therapist and the broader care team. Collaboration is central to this position: you will work closely with physical therapists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to support coordinated care plans aligned with Avera Health’s mission of improving patient outcomes across the Upper Midwest.
Patient education is an important part of your daily work. You will reinforce home exercise programs, safety instructions, and functional training that empower patients and caregivers to participate actively in the rehabilitation process. Drawing on Avera’s culture of compassion, hospitality, and stewardship, you will provide respectful, dignified care to individuals of diverse backgrounds, ensuring that each patient feels heard, supported, and encouraged throughout their recovery.
Within Avera Health’s supportive and collaborative environment, you will have opportunities for ongoing professional growth. You will stay current with best practices in physical therapy interventions, infection control, and patient safety, and may participate in in-services, quality improvement initiatives, and mentorship activities as appropriate. Your role may involve working in various clinical settings within the Avera network, such as inpatient hospital units, outpatient clinics, or long-term and transitional care facilities, depending on organizational needs.
This position is ideal for a dedicated Physical Therapy Assistant who values teamwork, clear communication, and patient-centered care. By combining your clinical skills with Avera Health’s comprehensive resources and mission-driven culture, you will help patients regain function, independence, and quality of life while contributing meaningfully to the communities we serve.
