The Position You’ll be joining a cross‑functional engineering team that works on building tools, APIs, and integrations for our HR platform. The role spans Frontend, Backend, SRE, and QA, with the specific team being determined during the interview process. We build our backend with Elixir, Phoenix, and PostgreSQL, our frontend with React and Next.js, and we host on AWS. GitLab is our version control and CI/CD system.

Qualifications Must Have
Strong engineering fundamentals and a track record of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
Experience designing or adopting automation workflows (or comparable systems) and iterating them.
Systems thinking: ability to define specifications, break down plans, instrument verification, and close the loop on quality.
Experience with PostgreSQL (or similar).
Proficiency in CI/CD tools such as GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.
Nice to have
Experience with functional programming languages such as Elixir, Erlang, Scala, Clojure, or Haskell.
Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS.
Experience with Next.js, React, Vue, or Angular.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development of major team‑scoped projects and cross‑team initiatives for Remote’s HR and payroll products.
Actively participate in product work, providing feedback and suggesting improvements.
Maintain a solid understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
Provide constructive code‑review feedback.
Contribute to the shared codebase.
Debug and solve technical and business issues.
Participate in support rotations, hiring, RFC discussions, and other team‑wide activities.
Mentor and guide other engineers.
Investigate, propose, and implement platform improvements.
Design interfaces with performance, accessibility, and API quality in mind.
Redesign how engineering work ships with autonomous agents as the default execution layer.
Propose and operationalize end‑to‑end agentic workflows (spec → plan → execute → verify) to deliver outcomes faster.
Build reusable agentic workflows and primitives for repeated application across domains.
Use verification loops—tests, checks, evaluations, guardrails—to ensure secure, reliable, scalable results.

Salaries Annual salary range: $53,300 – $119,850 USD (based on role, level, and location).
