SUMMARY The Data Analyst’s role is to design and execute data modeling/analysis services used to mine enterprise systems and applications for knowledge and information that enhance business processes. This individual is also responsible for assisting in designing, building, deploying, and maintaining data support tools, metadata inventories, and definitions for database file/table creation, as well as analyzing data systems that inform business decisions. This position will be deployed across divisions, with an emphasis on data analysis and qualitative market research. The position may be called upon to analyze survey data, and will collaborate with all AMS departments, providing guidance and feedback on design and statistical reporting. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills in databases and analytics.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Devise, develop, and deploy required data queries in response to business user needs.
In conjunction with data owners and department managers, develop data models and protocols for mining production databases.
Develop and implement initiatives to improve reporting and to provide new avenues for audience identification and targeting as well as product development, covering Publishing, Fiscal, Marketing trends, and customer interactions.
Assist in the development of data management policies and procedures.
Identify research questions, problem solve using data analysis and communicate the results to various stakeholders.
Provide competitive analysis regarding market offerings, trends, pricing, business models.
Provide qualitative market research across divisions with a focus on market research.
Analyze audience identification methods for product development, sales, and membership.
Operational Management
Work with application development staff to coordinate the creation and management of data queries.
Collaborate with unit managers, end users, development staff, and other stakeholders to integrate data management applications with existing systems.
Provide and apply quality assurance best practices for data analysis services across the organization.
Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to data models.
Create data definitions for new database file/table development and/or changes to existing ones.
Determine required network components to ensure data access, as well as data consistency and integrity.
Develop routines for end users to facilitate best‑practice use of data management tools.
Collaborate with database and disaster recovery administrators to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
Monitor data management system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time.
Involvement in inter‑departmental projects and experience communicating with various stakeholders.
Experience with survey design. Experience conducting focus groups a plus.
Demonstrated ability to interpret data and provide insightful written analysis and appropriate data visualizations for different audiences.
Research and Analysis
Serve as market research and data analysis expert for projects and product development.
Serve as support to the in‑house data analyst for major AMS surveys (e.g., annual departmental surveys, PhD follow‑up studies), working in close collaboration with relevant AMS departments and external contractors.
Contribute to survey instrument development, question design, sampling strategy alignment, and response monitoring.
Support development of dashboards across all divisions of the AMS, visualizations, and reports to communicate findings to AMS leadership and stakeholders.

TRAVEL : 5-10%

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in the field of computer science, statistics, science, or a related field.
Minimum 3 years of work experience in research and analysis.
Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., R, Python, Stata, or SAS) and tools for data visualization and reporting. Experience in Microsoft BI and/or Tableau desirable.
Strong understanding of data models, structures, theories, principles, and practices, including relationships to survey research.
Excellent knowledge of data modeling tools
Strong familiarity with data preparation, processing, classification, and forecasting.
Demonstrated experience in survey data analysis or applied statistics, knowledge of survey design principles a plus.
Working technical experience with relational database servers
Direct experience with data management techniques.
Hands‑on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
Involvement in inter‑departmental projects and experience communicating with various stakeholders.
