About the role We are seeking an Azure DevOps Engineer to be the foundational infrastructure hire our AI-powered product platform. This is a high-impact, high-ownership role: you will be the first and primary DevOps engineer on the team, building the cloud infrastructure, CI/CD systems, and operational practices that everything else runs on.
This role will focus on designing and operating a reliable, scalable Azure infrastructure that supports our AI and SaaS product development, while establishing the engineering standards and deployment practices that will scale with the team. You will work closely with engineering and product leadership to make thoughtful build-vs-buy decisions, own reliability and cost efficiency in production, and ensure our AI workloads on Azure are monitored, observable, and safe to ship.
What you'll do
Own and operate all cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure including Compute, networking, IAM, and scaling
Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Bicep, or equivalent
Optimize infrastructure for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency
Manage and support AI/ML workloads deployed on Azure, including Azure AI Foundry and related services
Ensure reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency of AI-powered systems in production
Monitor and troubleshoot AI system behavior including latency, failures, and degraded outputs
CI/CD and Release Management
Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
Define and enforce release processes including versioning, build reproducibility, and deployment workflows
Design deployment strategies including blue-green, canary, and phased rollouts
Ensure safe rollback and recovery mechanisms for failed releases
Observability and Incident Response
Implement observability across systems including logging, metrics, and error tracking using tools such as Sentry, Azure Monitor, and Prometheus
Set up alerting and incident response workflows using PagerDuty or equivalent
Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident resolution
Qualifications
5+ years in DevOps or infrastructure engineering
Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure
Deep experience with CI/CD systems, GitHub Actions preferred
Proven experience operating production systems with real users and uptime requirements
Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Bicep, or similar
Strong understanding of observability, monitoring, and alerting
Experience handling production incidents and on-call rotations
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Bash
Nice to Have
Experience deploying or supporting AI/ML workloads in production environments
Experience with Azure AI Foundry or Azure AI services including Azure OpenAI
Experience managing LLM-based systems in production with a focus on latency, cost, and reliability

The pay range for this role is: 130,000 - 150,000 USD per year (Hybrid, San Mateo, CA)
