Data Analyst Intern
to join our Risk Adjustment department. This full‑time, 40‑hour a week internship is based out of our Capitol Hill Administrative Office in Washington, D.C., and follows a hybrid work model. The summer internship runs for approximately 12 weeks, from May 29th to August 14th. The position is ineligible for benefits.
Reporting to the Risk Adjustment Manager, the Data Analyst Intern will support data‑driven decision‑making initiatives by assisting with data collection, analysis, and reporting activities. The role provides hands‑on experience working with large datasets and analytics tools while contributing to projects that inform operational and strategic decisions. You will collaborate with analysts and business partners to identify trends, generate insights, and support reporting and visualization efforts across the organization.
You can expect to:
Develop data queries and extract information from internal systems using tools such as Oracle SQL Developer, SAS, Python, and Excel.
Prepare datasets by retrieving, cleaning, and organizing information to support analysis and reporting needs.
Partner with analysts and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and contribute to analytical problem‑solving efforts.
Provide analytical support by participating in exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies.
Lead or assist with responding to data requests and providing detailed datasets to support reporting and project needs.
Oversee or support the preparation of reports and data visualizations that communicate insights to leadership and stakeholders.
Administer analytical support tasks and deliver assigned work accurately and on schedule with strong attention to detail.
What is required:
Must be a current student enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Information Systems Management, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field; recent college graduates are ineligible for the internship program.
Must be available to work full time, 40 hours a week, for a minimum of 12 weeks.
Prior experience with data analysis projects (academic or internship) is a plus.
Interest or coursework related to data analytics, statistical analysis, or data management.
Familiarity with SQL, Excel, and at least one programming language such as Python or SAS.
Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI is a plus.
Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, problem‑solving ability, and effective written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated eagerness to learn and collaborate in a team‑oriented environment.
Must be able to commute to the Washington, D.C. regional office as needed.
Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C., Maryland, or Virginia metropolitan area.
Must provide documentation of the Covid‑19 vaccine 2‑dose series (or J&J 1‑dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1‑dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment. Must also provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment.
Starting hourly rate ranges from $20.00 to $25.00, based on applicant skills, qualifications, degrees, prior experience, training, market data, and other factors. Internships are non‑exempt and not eligible for employee benefits.
