We are looking for an experienced Data Center Manager to join our IT infrastructure team at Lonza in Visp. This role serves as a technical expert and provides engineering across our region and sites. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of infrastructure compute platforms and experience in Data Center facility management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operation, monitoring and maintenance of the data center components, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and security of IT/OT infrastructure.
  • Enable the Lonza Data Center standards globally and be responsible for regional DCs.
  • Act as a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for any IT technical infrastructure related topics at the Visp site for external IT service providers and the central infrastructure team.
  • Engage as SPOC with local site mechanical service teams (electrical, facilities, fire, security, cooling, etc.) to maintain operational readiness of the data center facilities in Visp.
  • Assign and govern work to team of Data Center Operations staff.
  • Define the Data Center strategy globally and roadmap based on the needs of organization.
  • Define cabling and labeling standards with an installation concept & define type of cable e.g. copper, fiber, Twinax etc.
  • Develop and test the technical disaster recovery plan for the site and refresh it periodically.
  • Manage the life cycle of IT infrastructure assets and associated risks.
  • Plan and oversee data center expansions or migrations, including capacity planning and risk assessments.
  • Drive continuous improvements, standardization, and automation of infrastructure systems.
  • Maintain the consistency and maintainability of existing infrastructure environments through well-documented standards and procedures.
  • Documentation of physical installation including rack layout.
  • Ensure adherence with security and compliance policies and procedures within the IT infrastructure scope.
  • Monitor data center performance and troubleshoot issues, implementing solutions to optimize performance and minimize downtime.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in data center management, recommending improvements and innovations to enhance operations.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience in managing and operating a data center facility (power, cooling, security, etc.) is required.
  • Advanced technical experience with VMware vSphere, Windows Server, Linux Server, Storage and Backup is required.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals.
  • Must be business fluent in English & German.
  • Knowledge of security hardening and best practices.
  • Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams in a global environment.
  • Proven experience with simplification and standardization of infrastructure.
  • Ability to drive cultural and technological disruption.
  • Experience building, scaling, and monitoring infrastructure.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or other regulated industries is preferred.
  • Experience leading data center projects, including expansions, migrations, and upgrades, with strong project management skills.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to data center operations, such as GDPR, HIPAA, and ISO 27001.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP), Certified Data Center Management Professional (CDCMP) are a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to anticipate risks and devise solutions.
