About

Azure Platform Architect
Architect the Systems That Move the Nation’s Food Supply
Who We Are
US Cold owns and operates one of the most complex temperature-controlled logistics networks in North America. Every day, our systems coordinate the storage and movement of food at national scale across a network of state-of-the-art distribution centers, including multiple highly automated warehouse facilities.
We continue to advance our core warehouse and logistics platforms. Our current focus is on modular, event-driven, API-first and cloud architectures. We continue to enhance reliability and accelerate engineering productivity by strengthening our SRE and AI practices. This is a large investment in innovation to continue to drive operational excellence at our facilities.
If you want to build durable systems that operate in the physical world at scale, this is that opportunity.
The Role
The Cloud Architect defines how cloud infrastructure is designed, deployed, governed, and operated at US Cold.
This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for shaping the Azure platform that supports warehouse automation, enterprise applications, data platforms, and integrations across hundreds of facilities.
You will own architectural standards, eliminate manual infrastructure practices, and establish durable patterns that engineering and operations teams rely on every day.
This is not a roadmap-only role. You will design, review, and validate systems that must remain reliable while the business runs.
You will report to the Director of IT Operations and collaborate closely with Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, and Business Application teams.
What You Will Own
Define the target architecture for US Cold’s Azure platform across networking, identity, compute, and data services
Replace ad‑hoc and manual provisioning with fully automated, immutable infrastructure using Terraform and CI/CD pipelines
Establish reference architectures for:
Hub‑and‑spoke networking and private connectivity
Secure multi‑environment deployments
AKS‑based container platforms
API‑first and event‑driven integration patterns
Design and enforce governance and security guardrails using policy‑as‑code approaches
Architect CI/CD pipelines that embed testing, security scanning, and deployment controls by default
Partner with engineering and data teams to ensure infrastructure supports real workloads, not theoretical designs
Lead architecture reviews focused on reliability, cost efficiency, operational excellence, and long‑term maintainability
This is foundational platform work. The standards and systems you design will shape how teams build and operate software for years.
Technical Environment
Azure‑first enterprise cloud environment
Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
GitHub Actions for CI/CD orchestration
Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Docker for containerized workloads
Azure Policy and private networking for security and governance
Snowflake data platform and Power Platform integrations
Architecture guided by the Azure Well‑Architected Framework
What We’re Looking For
10+ years in infrastructure or platform engineering, with deep experience in senior architecture roles
Hands‑on expertise across Azure compute, networking, identity, security, and governance
Proven experience operating large‑scale cloud environments managed entirely through automation
Advanced Terraform experience building modular, reusable infrastructure
Strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture, networking, and security
Experience designing systems that balance architectural rigor with operational reality
Ability to influence standards and direction across teams without relying on formal authority
Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification
HashiCorp Terraform certification
Experience supporting Snowflake or enterprise analytics platforms
Prior participation in a Cloud Center of Excellence or similar architecture governance model
Why This Role Is Different
This is not an optimization role.
This is not a greenfield experiment.
This is not infrastructure as a support function.
You will:
Architect platforms that underpin national food supply operations
Make decisions with long‑term operational consequences
Build systems that must work continuously, not occasionally
Influence how engineering teams design and deploy software
Operate with executive visibility and real accountability
This is an opportunity to build durable cloud architecture inside a company modernizing its core technology platform — without startup volatility.
Operational Context
This role is primarily technical and office-based, with occasional interaction in operational environments depending on system needs.
