The Cloud Architect will support the Naval Criminal Investigative Service Digital Business Directorate by leading the design, implementation, and sustainment of secure enterprise cloud solutions for mission‑critical law‑enforcement, counter‑terrorism, and counter‑intelligence operations worldwide. This role is central to NCIS’s transition from on‑premises infrastructure to a Department of the Navy‑established virtual private cloud hosted on Flank Speed Microsoft Azure.
The Cloud Architect will collaborate closely with government and contractor stakeholders to ensure secure, scalable, and compliant cloud architectures across unclassified and classified domains while maintaining uninterrupted operations during the multi‑year cloud migration. This position requires deep expertise in cloud architecture, cybersecurity integration, enterprise IT modernization, and Department of Defense compliance frameworks.
Responsibilities
Architect and design secure cloud solutions within a Department of the Navy virtual private cloud hosted on Microsoft Azure Flank speed
Lead planning and execution of migration from on‑premises systems to cloud environments while ensuring continuity of mission operations
Develop cloud architectures supporting NIPR, SIPR, and JWICS domains in coordination with government stakeholders
Design and maintain cloud networking, identity access management, storage, and compute architectures aligned with Zero Trust principles
Integrate cybersecurity controls in accordance with the Risk Management Framework, NIST Intelligence Community Directive, and Department of Defense policies
Support Assessment and Authorization activities including development of system security plans, security assessment reports, and plans of action and milestones
Coordinate with enterprise architects, cybersecurity teams, application developers, and operations teams to ensure interoperable and secure cloud services
Support cloud cost modeling, usage tracking, and optimization to meet government financial management requirements
Develop and maintain technical documentation including architecture diagrams, system designs, and standard operating procedures
Provide guidance on cloud best practices, automation, scalability, disaster recovery, and high availability
Support transition activities ensuring required cloud skill sets are available throughout the contract lifecycle
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
Top Secret clearance with eligibility for SCI read‑on prior to start
Minimum eight years of enterprise IT experience with at least five years in cloud architecture and engineering roles
Demonstrated experience designing and supporting enterprise cloud environments within government or highly regulated organizations
Experience supporting Intelligence Community or Department of Defense organizations
Extensive experience architecting solutions in Microsoft Azure enterprise environments
Experience supporting hybrid cloud architectures integrating on‑premises and cloud systems
Strong knowledge of cloud networking, identity management, security logging, monitoring, and automation
Experience with cloud‑native services supporting collaboration application hosting and data platforms
Familiarity with Microsoft 365 cloud services including Outlook, SharePoint Online, Teams, PowerApps, and Intune
Strong documentation and communication skills supporting technical and non‑technical stakeholders
Experience coordinating with government program offices, cybersecurity officials, and operational teams
Ability to adapt quickly to evolving mission requirements and technical environments
Experience supporting global enterprise environments including CONUS and OCONUS locations
Preferred Experience:
Experience with DoN, DoD, or LE application environments is preferred.
Certifications
IAT II per the DoD 8140 or DoD 8570; requires a minimum of Security+/Knowledge‑Base Plus certification or equivalent.
Cloud related certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent.
Pay Transparency Statement AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for its applicants and employee‑owners. The salary range for this position is USD $129,800.00 / year – USD $216,700.00 / year. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
