Job Summary The Research IT Data Engineer designs, develops, evaluates, and modifies computer programs and database applications used to collect, manage, analyze, and evaluate clinical and research data. The role includes monitoring data quality, identifying inconsistencies, proactively resolving data issues, and implementing data management plans to meet project and protocol deadlines. The position serves as a liaison between investigators and project teams, providing expertise in the design and development of research studies, clinical trials, and supporting systems.
Responsibilities
Design and develop programs and databases using SAS and analytical software to support research projects.
Monitor data quality and resolve inconsistencies proactively.
Implement data management plans to meet project and protocol deadlines.
Provide expertise for research studies, clinical trials, and supporting systems.
Liaise between investigators and project teams as needed.
Provide technical support for data pipeline implementation, monitoring, and administration.
Work across enterprise data environments to ensure scalability, efficiency, and accuracy.
Assemble and manage large, complex datasets that meet business requirements.
Identify, design, and implement process improvements to enhance scalability and automate manual processes.
Build and maintain data pipeline architecture for efficient extraction, transformation, and loading of data from various sources.
Partner with data and analytics experts to enhance functionality and performance of data systems.
Design and deploy frameworks and microservices to serve data assets.
Perform root cause analysis on data and processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
Act as a trusted advisor to business leads, aligning data strategies with business goals.
Ensure database implementation procedures comply with regulations.
Organize data in cloud storage and implement appropriate security measures.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with multiple teams within the organization.
Work independently and collaboratively, using strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
Maintain clear documentation and support procedures.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in data engineering, data analytics, computer engineering, or related field.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in data engineering or database analytics.
Strong programming skills in Python, Scala, and SQL.
Advanced SQL knowledge and experience with relational databases.
Experience with data management technologies such as RedShift, Postgres, or Snowflake.
Experience in SAS in a healthcare or research setting highly preferred.
