About
How you’ll make a difference – Your Role and Responsibilities We are seeking a motivated Database & Data Analyst with direct experience building large relational databases in Amazon Web Services (AWS) / SQL. We are seeking candidates with direct experience building secure data import APIs, performing ETL, and constructing web-based, visually insightful analytic dashboards (Python) from a pre-existing Microsoft PowerBI Dashboard. Experience with rigorous statistical analyses of large datasets required.
This role is ideal for a someone who already has direct experience working with AWS, SQL, Python, and PowerBI in business applications, and who would like to continue and advance their knowledge while applying their technical skillsets to real-world energy challenges involving large, complex datasets (e.g., 15-minute energy usage data for thousands of customers, energy technology performance attributes (e.g., temperature trends), etc.). The position offers the opportunity to transition into a full‑time role based on performance.
Responsibilities
Construct a secure AWS relational database using pre-existing datasets housed in individual CSV files. This database must comply with cybersecurity best practices for data of national security (energy utility usage and infrastructure data). The database will serve as the backbone for ongoing data imports (API) and a dynamic web dashboard that calculates KPIs from the AWS relational database (both static and “what‑if” scenarios)
Maintain AWS‑based data infrastructure (e.g., S3, Lambda, EC2, Glue, Redshift)
Build and optimize Python scripts for data ingestion, processing, and analysis
Work with large-scale datasets, including time‑series energy and customer data
Assist in developing analytics pipelines and web dashboards that visualize static data within AWS, along with dynamic “what‑if” analyses.
Collaborate with senior analysts and engineers to improve data quality, structure, and performance
Document workflows, code, and data processes
What you need to be successful – Minimum Experience, and SkillsQualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (recent graduate) in Data Science, Engineering, or related field
Professional experience using AWS, Python, SQL, etc. to build secure relational databases that serve as the foundational for dynamic web accessible dashboards (beginning with translating a PowerBI Dashboard to a Python‑based web dashboard with more analytical flexibility)
Strong proficiency in Python (e.g., pandas, NumPy, data processing libraries), SQL, PowerBI (for the purposes of mapping the existing dashboard into a web-based dashboard that communicates directly with the AWS database).
Experience working with structured and unstructured datasets and performing rigorous statistical analyses on large datasets
Understanding of databases (SQL, data modeling, ETL processes) and data analytics / statistical packages
Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Some experience with energy, utilities, or time‑series data helpful but not required
Direct experience working with / developing data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, or Python‑based tools) for business / enterprise applications
Professional experience using machine learning and statistical analysis of large datasets in a business / enterprise application
Experience with version control (e.g., Git)
What You’ll Gain
Hands‑on experience working with real utility‑scale datasets and advanced analytics platforms
Exposure to, and opportunities to design, cutting‑edge energy utility conservation / load flexibility programs (DERs, demand response, electrification)
Mentorship from experienced professionals in energy analytics and program design
Opportunity for full‑time employment with a growing firm based on performance
Schedule & Location – Flexibility! You’ll have the flexibility to work 16 - 24 hours between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM PST, Monday – Friday, while working comfortably in your home.
Office Location: Walnut Creek and Santa Cruz, CA where occasional office visits may be required.
How to Apply Please submit your resume and a brief description of your experience using AWS, Python, SQL, PowerBI, etc. to construct secure online databases, perform ETL, and develop dynamic web dashboards that statistically analyze data from AWS using visually intuitive platforms that resonate with C‑Suite executives to recruit@tierrarc.com . List relevant projects or code samples.
