Job Description Takeda Development Center Americas, Inc. is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to engineer cloud‑based data pipelines, develop AI/ML solutions, and drive data‑driven decision making across clinical and operational domains.
Location Cambridge, MA (remote work allowed anywhere in the U.S.)
Position Principal Data Engineer – Full‑time
Position Description
Engineer cloud‑based data pipelines using Python, Spark, and Airflow to automate ETL/ELT processes for efficient data ingestion, transformation, and storage across data lakes and warehouses.
Design and implement AI/ML and GenAI‑driven solutions, including supervised/unsupervised learning, statistical modeling, and NLP, to enhance data quality, automate workflows, and support evidence‑based clinical decision‑making.
Develop robust data integration workflows for structured and unstructured data, ensuring adherence to Good Clinical Practices, FDA regulations, and SOPs through SQL‑based data validation frameworks.
Create interactive dashboards and real‑time visualization platforms to deliver actionable insights from clinical and operational data.
Build custom automation tools using Python, R, and APIs to streamline data entry, reduce manual processing, and enhance operational efficiency across clinical research systems.
Partner with cross‑functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and advise leadership on AI/ML adoption, automation strategies, and emerging data technologies.
Present technical innovations at leading conferences and guide enterprise‑wide adoption of scalable, AI‑powered data engineering solutions.
Requirements
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
At least 30 months of related experience, including design, development, testing, and deployment of software applications and features.
Experience implementing automated testing and regression testing using Selenium and Python.
Strong collaboration skills with cross‑functional teams (developers, business analysts, QA leads) and participation in Agile/Scrum ceremonies.
Proficiency in data wrangling, transformation, and management to create structured datasets stored in databases for analysis.
Benefits
Competitive salary range: $139,000 – $236,800 per year.
