Medline has an immediate need for a Digital & eCommerce Architect to join and lead a multi-year, multi-national modernization program and ecommerce development team. This program and team are dedicated to transforming Medline's ecommerce technical capabilities and building a modern cloud-based platform to drive innovation and scale for the future.
As an Architect, you will collaborate with business and IT leaders to align technology initiatives with business strategies. You will influence changes to business models, processes, organizations, and investments by providing a cloud and API-first technology perspective and an analytical approach to decision-making. You will ensure the delivery of high-quality technology solutions across a portfolio of eCommerce products, systems, and services.
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and innovative
Digital and Ecommerce Architect
to lead the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge ecommerce solutions using modern, composable, and cloud-native architectures. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in leveraging MACH principles (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, Headless), composable commerce platforms such as CommerceTools, and advanced frontend technologies like Next.js. This role involves architecting scalable, high-performance ecommerce solutions while leveraging microservices, microfrontends, and Kubernetes on the Azure platform.
Key Responsibilities:
Architect Composable Solutions : Design and architect modular, composable commerce solutions using modern frameworks and tools such as
CommerceTools
and
Next.js
in alignment with MACH architecture principles (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, Headless).
Cloud-Native Ecommerce : Architect and implement
Azure-native
ecommerce platforms leveraging cloud services like
AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service) ,
Azure Functions , and
API Management
to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient solutions.
Microservices & APIs : Design, develop, and manage microservices-based architectures, ensuring seamless API integrations for commerce platforms, including third-party services and data sources.
Composable Commerce Expertise : Lead the integration of
Composable Commerce
technologies and frameworks (e.g., CommerceTools), creating highly flexible and scalable commerce ecosystems that can easily adapt to new customer experiences.
Frontend Leadership : Architect and implement
microfrontend
solutions using modern JavaScript frameworks such as
Next.js , enabling modular and independently deployable frontend components.
MACH Principles : Drive the adoption of MACH principles across the architecture, ensuring that systems are decoupled, API-first, cloud-native, and headless to support a flexible and scalable ecommerce environment.
Kubernetes & Containerization : Lead the deployment and orchestration of containerized applications using
Kubernetes , ensuring efficient scaling, high availability, and optimized cloud resource usage.
Collaboration & Mentorship : Work closely with engineering teams, product owners, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into architectural blueprints, while mentoring developers on modern architecture best practices.
Optimization & Performance : Ensure the scalability, performance, and security of digital commerce platforms by leveraging best practices in cloud-native technologies, Kubernetes orchestration, and continuous delivery pipelines.
Documentation & Governance : Ensure comprehensive documentation of architecture decisions, designs, and processes, and participate in architectural governance to ensure compliance with technical and business standards.
Required Skills & Experience:
Azure Cloud Expertise : In-depth knowledge of
Azure services
including Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure App Services, Azure API Management, Azure Functions, and other cloud-native technologies.
MACH Architecture : Strong understanding of
MACH principles (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, Headless)
and experience in implementing these in ecommerce solutions.
Composable Commerce : Proven experience with
Composable Commerce platforms
(CommerceTools or similar) and deep understanding of headless commerce frameworks.
Microservices Architecture : Expertise in building and managing
microservices-based architectures , leveraging tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and API gateways.
Frontend Development : Proficient in
microfrontend
development using
Next.js
or similar frameworks, with a focus on delivering modular, scalable, and performance-optimized frontend applications.
API-First Development : Extensive experience designing, developing, and managing
RESTful and GraphQL APIs
as part of an API-first strategy, facilitating seamless integrations across systems.
Kubernetes Orchestration : Hands-on experience managing and scaling
Kubernetes
clusters for orchestrating cloud-native, containerized applications.
DevOps & CI/CD : Strong understanding of
DevOps practices
and tools, such as
Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Terraform , for automating infrastructure deployment and application delivery pipelines.
Ecommerce Platform Integration : Knowledge of integrating with
ecommerce platforms
and third-party systems, ensuring smooth operation across different channels.
Security & Performance : Deep understanding of security protocols (OAuth, SSO, JWT) and best practices for optimizing performance in cloud-native ecommerce environments.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
7+ years of experience
in digital architecture, with a focus on cloud-native, ecommerce, and composable commerce solutions.
Strong proficiency with
CommerceTools ,
Next.js , and
Azure
technologies.
Familiarity with modern JavaScript frameworks and libraries (React, Angular, etc.) and back-end technologies (Node.js, .NET Core, Java).
Certifications in
Microsoft Azure ,
Kubernetes , or relevant ecommerce platforms (CommerceTools) are highly desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in migrating from monolithic ecommerce platforms to
composable commerce solutions .
Familiarity with
headless CMS
systems (Contentful, Strapi, etc.).
Knowledge of
data analytics tools
such as Azure Synapse or Power BI.
Experience working in an
Agile
or
Scrum
environment.

The anticipated salary range for this position:
$132,600.00 - $199,160.00 Annual
The actual salary will vary based on applicant's location, education, experience, skills, and abilities. This role is bonus and/or incentive eligible. Medline will not pay less than the applicable minimum wage or salary threshold.
