The Tollway is a user-fee system – no state or federal tax dollars are used to support maintenance and operations. Operations are funded by toll and concession revenues.
Under the leadership of the Board of Directors and Executive Staff, the Tollway is committed to achieving the following goals: increase collaboration with regional transportation and planning agencies, promote the regional economy, maintain financial integrity, foster environmental responsibility and sustainability, maintain the safety and efficiency of the Tollway system, further transparency and accountability, enhance customer service, and maintain public trust.
The Illinois Tollway 2026 IT Intern program is designed to enhance students’ academic curriculum through hands‑on work experience. IT Interns will be placed across various IT teams based on business needs, skills, and interests. Embedded within technical learning and skill application will be soft skills trainings such as presentation skills, professional communication and others provided by the Illinois Tollway’s Professional Learning Department.
Essential Job Functions During the IT Intern Program, the Intern’s responsibilities may include:
Assisting with daily IT service center operations and technical support tasks
Assistingwith cyber security monitoring, audits, or best practices
Supporting with data analysis, privacy, retention, and governance
Collaborating with team members for IT projects and initiatives
Learning and applying IT tools and processes to current projects
Complete other special projects and duties as assigned

Hands‑on experience with active IT‑related projects
Assigned mentorship and professional development program
On‑site learning environment and interactive group experiences
Job shadow and career development activities
Summer or year‑round internships available
Flexible scheduling for part time participation during the summer (20-30 hours per week).
The IT Intern program is offered both as a year‑long program, from June 2026 to May 2027, or a summer program from June 2026 to August 2026. Summer hours will be 20-30 hours per weekand fall/spring hours will be 15 hours per week.

Internship Opportunities will be available with the following areas:
Application Development (Software, Coding, Process Automation)
Data Governance (Data Analysis, Data Retention, Data Privacy, Data Governance)
IT Security (Cyber Security)
Operations and Customer Support (Hardware, Troubleshooting, Imaging)
Qualifications Education (Required)
Currently enrolled, or have a graduation date of November 2025 or later, in any trade/vocational program, certificate program, 2-year, 4-year or graduate level institution studying computer science, information technology, or a related field
Skills and Experience (Required)
Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and analytical skills
Superior organizational, problem-solving, and critical‑thinking skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to have reliable internet to perform work remotely as needed
Ability to work independently as well as within a team
Skills and Experience (Preferred)
Strategic and creative thought partner within a team
Superior organizational and critical‑thinking skills
