Role Summary We are seeking a
Data Scientist (AI/ML focus)
to support the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of the Chief Information Officer (HUD OCIO). The Data Scientist will analyze, model, and simulate data supporting HUD AI/ML proofs of concept and pilots. The position is fully remote; candidates must reside in the United States.
Responsibilities
Develop statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and simulations using Python.
Analyze HUD datasets, implement data preprocessing, and assess data quality for AI workflows.
Collaborate with HCD/UX and front‑end teams to operationalize models effectively.
Evaluate model performance, validate results, and iterate for improvement.
Support AI governance by documenting models, decisions, assumptions, and ethical safeguards.
Maintain version‑controlled code and reproducible workflows for HUD audit and compliance.
Requirements
5+ years of experience in data science, statistical modeling, or AI/ML projects.
Experience developing predictive models, simulations, and decision‑support tools.
Familiarity with federal datasets and AI governance requirements preferred.
Strong data processing, cleaning, transformation, and engineering capabilities.
Experience with SQL, NoSQL, Spark, Kafka, or cloud‑native pipelines.
Previous experience supporting HUD OCIO preferred.
Ability to pass required Federal background screening and obtain and maintain both government clearance and customer approval.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Python (pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch)
Statistical modeling, simulation, and decision theory
Data visualization: Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly
Version control: Git/GitHub/GitLab
Experience with AI/ML lifecycle and reproducible workflows

Education and Training
Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field (required)
Master's degree in Data Science, AI, or related field (preferred)
Python, machine learning, or data science certifications preferred
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
