OverviewAtlassian is seeking a Principal Machine Learning Scientist to join our Central AI team located in Bellevue WA. The Central AI organization constructs the fundamental infrastructure, data pipeline, frameworks, models, and other capabilities to expedite AI feature development throughout the entire company.Your Future TeamThe Central AI org is part of the Atlassian Intelligence program. Its purpose is to accelerate AI innovation across all products and platforms, provide cohesive AI experiences, and set up an Atlassian AI infrastructure for the future. Central AI constructs underlying infrastructure and capacities to enable seamless AI integration across departments and to develop core shared AI experiences such as search, knowledge discovery, and conversation.ResponsibilitiesAs a Principal Machine Learning Engineer, drive the development and implementation of cutting-edge machine learning algorithms, train sophisticated models, and collaborate with product, engineering, and analytics teams to embed AI functionalities into Atlassian products and services. Responsibilities include designing system and model architectures, conducting rigorous experimentation and model evaluations, and guiding emerging ML engineers. Ensure AI’s transformative potential is realized across offerings.QualificationsOn the first day, we expect you to haveBachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferably Computer Science or equivalent)5+ years of related industry experience in data scienceExpertise in Python or Java with production-quality coding ability; familiarity with SQL, Spark, and cloud data environments (e.g., AWS, Databricks)Experience building and scaling ML models for business applications using large datasetsAbility to communicate data science concepts to diverse audiences and craft a compelling narrativeFocus on business practicality and the 80/20 rule; value of delivering usable output over perfectionAgile development mindset with a preference for constant iterationNice to haveExperience in consumer/SaaS or enterprise/B2B spacesExperience developing deep learning models and LLM-related applicationsAptitude for solving ambiguous problems and breaking them into manageable componentsCompensation and BenefitsBase pay ranges in the United States are zone-based. Zone A: $229,300–$305,700; Zone B: $206,300–$275,100; Zone C: $190,300–$253,700. This role may be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
