You will manage the entire MQ lifecycle-from queue manager creation to complex clustering-while partnering with development teams to resolve high-priority incidents and performance bottlenecks.
Key Responsibilities • IBM MQ Administration: Design, create, and manage IBM MQ (formerly WebSphere MQ) queue managers, channels (sender/receiver/client), and distributed queuing architectures. • Infrastructure Management: Administer MQ across multiple operating systems, including Unix/Linux (AIX, RHEL) and Windows Server. Utilize shell scripting (Bash, PowerShell) to automate routine tasks and file system management. • Security & Compliance: Implement and manage SSL/TLS certificates, message encryption, and LDAP integration. Configure port rules and firewalls to ensure secure message transit. • Performance Tuning: Monitor queue depths, channel status, and log data to proactively identify and resolve performance issues. Lead capacity planning efforts to support enterprise growth. • Advanced Troubleshooting: Act as the primary point of contact for "poison message" management and Dead Letter Queue (DLQ) resolution. Provide high-level incident management and on-call support. • Ecosystem Collaboration: Maintain deep knowledge of related technologies such as Apache Kafka, IBM Integration Bus, and cloud-native messaging services (AWS MQ/Azure Service Bus).
Qualifications & Requirements • Experience: 5-10 years of dedicated IBM MQ administration experience in an enterprise environment. • Technical Mastery: * Expert-level knowledge of IBM MQ clustering and delivery guarantees. • Strong proficiency in Unix/Linux (AIX, Red Hat) and Windows administration. • Hands-on experience with SSL/TLS certificate management and TCP/IP networking. • Scripting: Proficiency in Shell (Bash/KSH) or PowerShell for middleware automation. • Tools: Experience with monitoring tools for queue depth and channel health. • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field; IBM Certified System Administrator - MQ is highly beneficial. • Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical thinking and the ability to document complex middleware processes for development teams.
