Location: AWE operates in RG7 4PR, situated between Reading and Basingstoke with free onsite parking.
Package: £51,000 - £60,000 (dependent on suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

The role summary
We seek a Senior Nuclear Security Specialist to join our Nuclear Threat Reduction Group at AWE, bringing expertise to deliver for our customers.
Nuclear Threat Reduction supports Government organisations by exploiting AWE's radiological and nuclear knowledge, developing and delivering national security capabilities under the UK CONTEST Strategy.
This NTR Operations role is suitable for experienced hires, utilising soft skills to engage with policy makers, technical specialists, and end-users. A strong team ethic and understanding of scientific processes and technologies, particularly electronics and radiation detection technologies, are required.
You will work in a dynamic team environment, engaging in hands-on, customer-facing roles.

Key responsibilities
Lead operational capability development tasks to schedule, cost, and quality in support of the Nuclear Threat Reduction (NTR) Operations programme:
- Develop and deploy AWE operational response capabilities,
- Oversee configuration control and maintenance for specialist detection instruments; apply policies and techniques to ensure they are maintained, stored, and configured against agreed processes and procedures.
- Procure, configure, and manage operational equipment and other assets,
- Ensure quality assurance in areas like electrical testing and calibration of instruments,
- Plan, deliver, and report on exercises and associated validation activities,
- Capture and record lessons and gaps identified, coordinating action plans,
- Provide technology or capability used by the operational response team that meets customer expectations (including configuration, maintenance, and quality control).

Due to classified work nature, limited home working opportunities exist. The successful candidate will primarily work on site at AWE Aldermaston.
