Scope of Work
The Criminal Justice Data Scientist will play a critical role in supporting data-driven decision-making within a law enforcement agency. This position involves analyzing complex criminal justice datasets along with relevant open-source data (e.g., census, demographic, and socio-economic datasets) to inform policy development, improve public safety outcomes, and enhance operational efficiency.
The role will support analysts and stakeholders by identifying, integrating, and visualizing large and disparate data sources to address business questions, identify trends and patterns, and conduct predictive analyses across a broad range of data types.
The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise in data science with a solid understanding of criminal justice systems and government regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Modeling Conduct advanced statistical analyses to identify crime trends and evaluate risk factors. Develop predictive models to forecast resource needs and identify potential crime hotspots or high-risk individuals. Assess program effectiveness and policy impact using evidence-based methodologies. Support agency-wide initiatives involving large datasets for investigative and analytical purposes. Data Integration & Governance
Design, develop, and maintain secure data pipelines integrating law enforcement, judicial, and corrections data. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local data privacy and security regulations (e.g., CJIS standards). Reporting & Visualization
Develop clear, actionable reports and dashboards for leadership, policymakers, and stakeholders. Translate complex technical findings into concise, accessible insights for non-technical audiences. Collaboration & Research
Partner with internal divisions, government agencies, and research institutions on data-driven initiatives. Contribute to grant proposals and federally funded research projects.
