We are at the early stages of building a modern data platform and are seeking a leader who is excited to shape the architecture from the ground updesigning scalable integrations, establishing strong data foundations, and enabling analytics and AI capabilities across an evolving enterprise landscape. Vessco Water is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to play a pivotal role in designing and delivering our next generation data platform. This is a senior, hands on technical leadership role responsible for shaping the data platform strategy, architecture, and integration patterns across Vessco Water and its platform partners. This role will partner closely with the VP of Data & AI, Technical Services Leadership Team, and a third party implementation partner to define the target state architecture and execution roadmap. Once strategic alignment is achieved, the Lead Data Engineer will execute the strategybuilding, integrating, and operationalizing the platform, with support from third-party partners as appropriate. The ideal candidate has successfully led similar data platform initiatives elsewhere, understands how to translate strategy into scalable engineering solutions, and is comfortable operating in a constantly evolving environment that blends strategy, architecture, and hands on delivery. Key duties and essential functions include: Data Platform Strategy & Architecture Design the future state enterprise data platform, including data ingestion, storage, transformation, and consumption patterns. Define architectural standards for data integration across internal systems and external platform partners. Establish scalable patterns for analytics, reporting, and future AI/ML enablement. Platform Build & Execution Lead hands on development of data pipelines, integration services, and core platform components. Translate agreed upon strategy into working solutions, taking ownership from design through production. Ensure performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability of the data platform. Partner & Vendor Collaboration Partner with a third party systems integrator during strategy and build phases. Act as the technical authority for data platform decisions, ensuring external work aligns with Vessco Water standards and long term vision. Data Integration & Enablement Design and implement integrations across ERP, operational, commercial, and external partner systems. Ensure data is well structured, trusted, and accessible for analytics and business intelligence use cases. Operational Ownership Establish operational best practices for monitoring, data quality, and ongoing platform evolution. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce technical debt, and enhance data usability over time. Supervisory Responsibilities Overseeing third-party vendors as appropriate. Required qualifications include: 10+ years of experience designing and building modern, cloud based data platforms supporting analytics and AI use cases (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, Azure Synapse, or similar). Strong hands on experience developing and operating scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and data integrations across enterprise systems (e.g., Azure Data Factory, dbt, Airflow, or equivalents). Advanced SQL expertise with demonstrated experience in data modeling, transformation, and performance optimization for analytics workloads. Proven experience architecting data integration patterns across ERP, operational, and external partner data sources. Senior level capability operating hands on while providing architectural direction and technical leadership for an enterprise data platform. Ability to work independently, take ownership, and execute with minimal direction once alignment is achieved. Experience partnering with business leaders to translate strategy into technical execution. Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non technical stakeholders. Preferred qualifications include: Experience working with distributed or multi-entity organizations and platform partners. Background in analytics-driven or operational data environments (ERP, commercial, or industrial data). Familiarity with data governance, data quality, and security best practices. Experience supporting downstream BI, analytics, or AI/ML use cases. Compensation: $167,288 - $188,199 + annual bonus.
