Long’s Human Resource Services is seeking an experienced Shipping Lead to oversee daily shipping operations for a client company in Mobile. This role is responsible for coordinating shipping activities, ensuring orders are prepared and loaded accurately, and leading a small team to maintain efficient, safe warehouse operations.
The Shipping Lead plays a key role in ensuring that customer orders are shipped correctly and on schedule while maintaining organization, inventory accuracy, and adherence to safety standards within the shipping area.
Role Summary
The Shipping Lead supervises day-to-day shipping operations, prioritizes outgoing orders, and coordinates warehouse staff responsible for staging, wrapping, and loading shipments. This position works closely with warehouse personnel and management to ensure all shipments meet quality, documentation, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily shipping activities and prioritize order fulfillment to meet customer deadlines
- Ensure all shipments are prepared accurately and depart with proper documentation
- Stage finished orders for shipment and oversee truck loading
- Direct and coordinate the work of wrapping and shipping teams to ensure efficient order preparation
- Ship customer orders domestically and internationally using designated carriers and freight forwarders
- Package outgoing shipments using approved materials, including corrugated and foam packaging
- Monitor the quality and accuracy of finished goods prior to shipment
- Maintain inventory of shipping supplies and materials
- Perform cycle counts and assist with inventory accuracy initiatives
- Train and support warehouse staff, including onboarding new hires
- Promote a safe and organized warehouse environment and ensure adherence to company safety practices
- Communicate process concerns or operational issues to management
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment within the warehouse team
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 2 years of shipping or warehouse experience
- Previous experience in a lead, coordinator, or position of responsibility preferred
- Experience with inventory control, cycle counting, or audits is a plus
- Forklift operation experience required or ability to become certified
- Basic computer skills for documentation and shipping processes
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Strong counting and basic math skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, climb, push, and pull throughout the workday
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment and operate material handling equipment
Additional Preferences
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus
