About Us

At ISP Whitstable, we are a small, specialized SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Primary school dedicated to supporting children with complex needs and challenging behaviors. Our safe and nurturing environment is enhanced by well-trained, supportive staff who utilize therapeutic and holistic approaches to provide an engaging and inspiring learning experience tailored to each child's unique journey.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Mentor and support one pupil or a small group.
  • Deliver engaging lessons aligned with early years frameworks and curriculum development.
  • Build positive relationships to drive interaction and positive learning outcomes.
  • Report on children's progress and concerns, collaborating with other staff to meet their needs.
  • Supervise children during non-classroom time, including extracurricular activities and school trips.
  • Assist with lesson planning and classroom preparation.
  • Set work and mark assignments where appropriate.
  • Implement attachment and trauma-informed strategies to support children's social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Participate in school events, extracurricular activities, and staff meetings as required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A relevant qualification in education or a related field (e.g., Level 3 Teaching Assistant Diploma).
  • Previous experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of early years frameworks and curriculum development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with complex needs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work.

As an ISP PEG, you will:

  • Prioritize teaching and learning, developing relevant strategies to support the teacher's work.
  • Promote inclusion by encouraging participation from all children in learning and extracurricular activities.
  • Utilize effective behavior management strategies consistently in line with school policies.
  • Communicate effectively and sensitively with children to adapt to their needs and support their learning.
  • Maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment by organizing and managing physical teaching space and resources.
Collaboration with Others

As an ISP PEG, you will:

  • Recognize and respect the contributions of other professionals, parents, and carers by liaising effectively and working in partnership.
  • Understand your role to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers and colleagues.
  • Communicate your knowledge and understanding of children to other staff and professionals for informed decision-making on interventions and provisions.
