Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.

This position is for permanent, full-time employment. Candidates must reside in the state of Georgia or be willing to relocate to Georgia as a condition of employment.

Job Summary
The Database Administrator (DBA) supports the administration, maintenance, and performance of database environments that power the University System of Georgia's enterprise applications, including PeopleSoft HCM and Financials systems.
This role focuses on day-to-day operational support of Oracle databases, assisting with upgrades and patches, troubleshooting issues, and helping maintain secure and reliable database environments. The DBA works closely with senior team members, developers, and infrastructure staff to support system stability and performance.
The position also assists with data-related efforts for enterprise initiatives, including the Unified ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) Project, under the guidance of senior technical staff.
Responsibilities
Database Administration & Support Administer and support Oracle databases for enterprise applications, including PeopleSoft environments. Assist with applying PeopleSoft releases, patches, and tools updates across development, test, QA, and production environments. Monitor database performance and assist with troubleshooting long-running jobs and database issues. Support backup and recovery processes to help ensure system resiliency and business continuity. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as server refresh support, file transferrequests, and clearing application and web server cache. Assist with database password updates and access reviews in coordination withsecurity policies.
Change Management & Governance Support the administration of the Phire change management application. Follow established workflow and deployment processes for application changesacross environments. Ensure adherence to USG change management standards and data governanceprocedures.
ERP Transition & Integration Support Assist with data conversion and validation activities related to the Unified ERP Project as USG transitions from PeopleSoft to Workday. Support data movement between systems under direction from senior DBAs andintegration architects. Participate in testing and validation processes to help ensure data accuracy andcompleteness. Develop familiarity with integration concepts, APIs, and secure data exchangepractices.
Security, Compliance & Performance Follow database and application security best practices to protect institutional data. Assist with implementing approved security controls and monitoring processes. Support performance tuning efforts and apply recommended improvements under guidance. Maintain compliance with established security and governance frameworks.
Collaboration & Documentation Work closely with infrastructure, application, and integration teams to support coordinated deployments and system reliability. Document operational procedures, configuration changes, and troubleshootingsteps. Participate in team knowledge-sharing and continuous learning initiatives. Seek guidance from senior DBAs when addressing complex or high-impact issues.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related technical field (or equivalent work experience). 3-5 years of experience in database administration or related technical support roles. Experience supporting Oracle databases in enterprise environments. Working knowledge of SQL and basic performance troubleshooting. Experience supporting upgrades, patches, or environment refreshes. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting PeopleSoft HCM and/or Financials environments. Familiarity with Phire or other change management tools. Exposure to Workday integration tools (Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors). Experience participating in ERP implementations or system migrations. Experience in higher education or public sector IT environments. Basic familiarity with APIs, REST/SOAP web services, or ETL processes. Exposure to hybrid (on-premise and cloud) environments.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge Foundational knowledge of Oracle database concepts, including tables, indexes, and database structures. Understanding of database security practices, including user access controls and data protection standards. General awareness of backup and recovery processes and the importance of system availability. Skills
Skill in monitoring system performance and identifying potential issues for escalation. Ability to assist with database maintenance tasks, including patches and environment support activities. Ability to document procedures, incidents, and changes in accordance with organizational standards. Abilities
Ability to learn and apply new systems, tools, and technologies with guidance from senior staff. Ability to communicate technical information clearly to team members and stakeholders. Ability to work effectively as part of a team supporting enterprise systems and shared services.
