About
In this role, you will own data at TerraFirma. Not a slice of it. Not the reporting piece. All of it: where it comes from, what shape it is in, where it lives, and whether it can be trusted. You are the person who makes data actionable for the business.
You will work closely with our Full Stack Developer on pipeline and integration work, and directly with business stakeholders to understand what they need to make decisions. You will spend a significant portion of your time cleaning, validating, and transforming data so that when a report goes in front of a leader, the numbers are right and the story is clear. If you are the kind of person who gets bothered by a broken data feed, who cannot leave a messy schema alone, and who gets satisfaction from turning chaos into something someone can actually use: this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
Data Quality and Integrity Identifying, investigating, and resolving data quality issues across all connected systems Building and maintaining validation frameworks so bad data gets caught before it reaches reports Establishing and documenting data standards, naming conventions, and transformation rules Being the person stakeholders call when the numbers do not match Data Lake and Pipeline Work
Managing data ingestion into the data lake from multiple source systems Designing and maintaining transformation pipelines that produce clean, structured, report-ready data Collaborating with the Full Stack Developer on integration design where pipelines connect to application logic Monitoring pipeline health, catching failures early, and keeping things running Reporting and Analytics
Building and maintaining Power BI reports and dashboards that get used, not shelved Working directly with stakeholders to translate business questions into data models and visualizations Owning the reporting layer: if a report is wrong, stale, or confusing, that is your problem to fix Surfacing insights proactively, not just waiting to be asked Data Architecture and Documentation
Contributing to the ongoing design of TerraFirma's data lake architecture Documenting data sources, schemas, transformation logic, and lineage so the team is not dependent on tribal knowledge Partnering with IT leadership on the long-term data strategy for the organization Experience and Education Requirements
3+ years working in a data-focused role with real ownership of data quality and reporting Demonstrated ability to take messy, inconsistent source data and produce something clean and trustworthy Strong SQL: not just SELECT statements, but complex joins, window functions, and performance tuning Power BI proficiency: you have built reports that people actually use to make decisions Python for data work: scripting, transformation, automation Clear communicator: you can explain a data discrepancy to a finance leader without making it a technical lecture Microsoft Environment Power BI: advanced report and dashboard development, DAX, data modeling, and row-level security Azure: Data Factory, Blob Storage, Synapse, or equivalent pipeline and lake tooling Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365 / Business Central as primary data source systems SQL: strong query skills, stored procedures, schema design, and optimization Beyond Microsoft, we expect: ETL/ELT design: you understand the difference, know when to use each, and can build both Data lake concepts: partitioning, schema-on-read vs schema-on-write, medallion architecture or equivalent Git and version control: your pipelines and transformation logic live in source control, not just in a tool UI Power Query / M: for lighter transformations and report-layer data shaping Experience with REST APIs and JSON: you will be pulling data from systems that expose APIs, not just databases This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees in this position.
