Come grow with us! Tompkins Veterinary Services (“Tompkins Vet”) is excited to be expanding its team and to continue to enhance the services we provide our clients, patients, and community. We are passionate about what we do, and the teamwork we do it with. Tompkins Vet is a one-doctor practice founded by Dr. Sonya Lawlis in 2021, now ready to expand in our newly renovated clinic to multiple veterinarians. We are comprehensively equipped with six exam rooms, in-house laboratory, digital X-Ray, ultrasound, dental capabilities, surgical capabilities, and five fantastic team members we look forward to growing.
*Job Summary*
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to animals while assisting veterinarians in various clinical procedures. This position requires a strong understanding of animal physiology, anatomy, and husbandry, as well as excellent communication skills to interact effectively with pet owners and team members. Our profession can be stressful, but we manage it together with teamwork.
*Duties*
* Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures by preparing instruments and ensuring a sterile environment using aseptic techniques.
* Perform routine laboratory tests, including blood work and urinalysis, to aid in diagnosing animal health issues.
* Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
* Monitor the health and behavior of animals in our care, providing necessary support and comfort.
* Maintain accurate medical records for each patient, documenting treatments and observations.
* Educate pet owners on proper pet care, nutrition, grooming, and preventive health measures.
* Assist with dental cleanings and procedures while utilizing appropriate dental terminology.
* Provide care for a variety of animals including equine when necessary, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
* Other duties as needed - as a small team, everyone pitches in to deliver great care and support each other.
*Qualifications*
* Current New York Veterinary Technician License.
* Strong knowledge of animal physiology, anatomy, and husbandry practices is essential.
* Ability to perform basic laboratory tests and understand veterinary medical terminology.
* Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with pet owners and team members.
* Compassionate attitude towards animals with a commitment to their welfare.
* Certification or degree in Veterinary Technology is preferred but not mandatory for all applicants willing to learn on the job.

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
