Expert-level Azure SQL Database Administrator.
The Database Administrator will support the Department of the Interior (DOI) in a proactive manner to deliver best practiced-based services complying with DOI architecture and security standards.

Responsibilities
Design, deploy, and administer MS SQL Server and Azure SQL solutions across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments. Configure and manage operational security, availability, performance optimization, and migration strategies for SQL databases. Migrate on-premises SQL Server environments to Azure SQL Managed Instance PaaS. Migrate databases between Azure SQL environments, i.e. Test to Production. Utilize Azure-native tools - Azure Portal and SSMS for database migration, performance optimization, and cloud resource management. Generate and monitor schema objects, such as tables, indexes, and views to ensure database health, accuracy, and optimal performance by tuning database parameters. Experience using Event Handlers, Logging, Checkpoints, Breakpoints and Debugging in SSIS Manage High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions such as Log Shipping, Mirroring, Always-On, and Clustering. Lead patching management procedures. Lead major upgrade cycles - databases and software release levels. Manage capacity planning, database storage structures, and backups and recovery. Design and manage database security and user access. Assist security staff with internal system reviews and audits in accordance with defined policy/procedures to ensure system/component settings remain in order as specified by security guidelines and STIGS. Document resolution of security findings; perform and document database level auditing and tracking; maintain required audit review logs. Ensure availability for all databases; write and submit Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and after-action reports to Government Management staff for unplanned outages. Respond to IT service requests in accordance with customer SLA requirements. Participate in on-call schedule for technical after-hour support. Other duties as assigned Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field. Cloud Platform: Microsoft Azure. Databases: Azure SQL Database (Elastic Pool), SQL Server (On-Premises). Migration Tools: Azure Database Migration Service (DMS), Data Migration Assistant (DMA). Database Concepts: Elastic Pools, External Tables, External Data Sources. Deployment Methods: BACPAC export/import, Azure Portal, PowerShell. 6 years
hands-on experience with
MS SQL Server
2016, 2017 and 2019 Database Versions. 2 years
of the last 6 years of experience administration of
Azure SQL
Databases, some of which is in Azure SQL Managed Instance. Expertise in managing Azure Elastic Pool databases and connecting external databases and tables. Expertise in using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) Highly skilled in producing efficient and project-oriented T-SQL query statements such as Dynamic SQLs, Cursors, Views, Stored Procedures, User-Defined Functions (UDFs), Expertise using Triggers, Indexes, Temp Table in SSMS to provide convenience for front-end applications or reporting purposes. Certifications:
Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate , earned by passing DP-300: Administering Microsoft Azure SQL Solutions. CompTIA Security+ Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship Must be able to pass the Public Trust Government background investigation Strong communication skills (both written and oral) Ability to work closely with a small team Ability to work in a high stress environment
