About

*We are building a massive-scale data application using NextJS and Supabase, but we’re doing it without the "safety net" of the cloud. Your role on our team is to join us in taking bare metal and spools of fiber to a production-ready, petabyte-scale Kubernetes environment that feels as seamless to our developers as a managed cloud service.*
## Core Responsibilities
1. The "Iron" (Hardware & Networking)
\* Provisioning: Manage the full lifecycle of bare-metal servers (provisioning with PXE, MAAS, or Tinkerbell).
\* Connectivity: Design and physically implement our on-prem network. This includes racking switches, running and terminating fiber (SFP28/QSFP), and configuring L2/L3 networking (BGP, VLANs, and high-speed backplanes for storage).
\* Hardware Strategy: Select and spec high-density NVMe storage arrays and compute nodes optimized for high-throughput Postgres and MinIO workloads.
2. The Platform (Orchestration & Storage)
\* Kubernetes on Metal: Architect and manage a production-grade Kubernetes cluster on bare metal (e.g., Talos, RKE2, or K3s).
\* Petabyte Storage: Deploy and tune MinIO as our primary object store, ensuring it can scale to multiple petabytes with high availability and performant erasure coding.
\* Database Reliability: Scale our self-hosted Postgres (Supabase stack) using operators like StackGres, CloudNativePG, or Patroni. Optimize for massive IOPS and implement robust backup/disaster recovery for on-prem data.
3. The Experience (Developer Operations)
\* Supabase Mastery: Deploy and maintain the full Supabase ecosystem (GoTrue, PostgREST, Realtime) within Kubernetes.
\* Application Deployment: Optimize the NextJS standalone build process for local containerized deployment.
\* Observability: Build a "look-into-the-metal" monitoring stack (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki) that covers everything from fiber signal strength to API latency.
Required Technical Profile
\* Systems: Deep Linux internals knowledge (Ubuntu/Debian) and kernel tuning for high-performance networking and storage.
\* Orchestration: Expert-level Kubernetes administration, specifically on-premise (managing LoadBalancers with MetalLB, Ingress-Nginx, and CSI drivers).
\* Storage: Proven experience managing distributed storage systems (MinIO is a plus, Ceph or Lustre also relevant) at the petabyte scale.
\* Networking: Proficiency with enterprise networking hardware and fiber optics. Knowledge of BGP and leaf-spine architecture.
\* Automation: "Infrastructure as Code" mindset using Ansible, Terraform (for on-prem providers), and Helm.
\* Development: Proficiency in a TypeScript or Python.
