Intern Cyber Security/IT Security (Unpaid Internship)

We are seeking a motivated Security Intern to assist with cybersecurity and IT security operations within our K-12 school environment. This is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in network security, threat analysis, and security policy implementation.

Responsibilities: Assist in monitoring and maintaining network security tools such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and endpoint protection. Conduct basic security audits and vulnerability assessments under supervision. Help with incident response, including investigating and documenting potential security threats. Assist in managing user access controls and permissions. Research best practices for cybersecurity in K-12 education and provide recommendations. Support the IT team in implementing security policies and training materials for staff and students. Document security incidents and maintain logs for compliance purposes. Collaborate with IT staff to improve security measures and address security-related issues. Prior to employment, the following must be addressed:

Required to complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense in accordance with N.J.S.A 18A:6-7.1. Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.2. Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.3. Requirements:

Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Basic understanding of network security principles, firewalls, and encryption. Familiarity with security frameworks such as NIST, CIS, or ISO 27001 is a plus. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Strong attention to detail and a proactive attitude. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Expectations:

Commitment of at least 4 hours per week (flexible schedule). Adherence to school and IT security policies. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while handling sensitive data. Willingness to learn and apply security best practices.

This internship provides valuable real-world experience in IT security and an opportunity to work in an educational setting. Interns will gain exposure to security operations, risk management, and compliance measures in a K-12 environment. ?
