The Dairy Product Development group at ABS Global is seeking a data driven problem solver with a strong interest in applied data science and analytics to help shape the future of animal breeding. This role focuses on transforming large-scale genetic and phenotypic datasets into
actionable insights
that directly influence breeding strategies and economic outcomes.
You will join a growing, technically oriented team that applies modern data workflows, analytics, and computational tools to real-world data (RWD). While grounded in the dairy industry, this position is well suited for candidates who enjoy
working with datasets, databases, and analytical systems
and want to apply those skills in a domain with tangible, global impact.
The position is based in the
general Madison, WI area
and is
physically located in DeForest, WI .
The salary range for this position is $56,000 - $80,000 USD. The salary provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
You Will
Collection, loading, and tracking of quality monthly farm data into ABS's Real World Database (RWD®) Recruitment and maintenance of RWD data including set-up of new herds, monitoring of on-farm software program changes, and database maintenance Providing support and resources on the RWD database including providing statistics on herd demographics and quality of on-farm data recording Providing support and resources for validation and incorporation of new farm software into RWD Identify areas for and help implement improvements to overall data workflow process Collaboration with dairy genetic research team in trait definition and development of proprietary genetic evaluations Provide support and training to others within company on dairy data and major dairy herd management software Data analysis and report development Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, Animal Science, Dairy Science, or a related quantitative field Strong intellectual curiosity with a demonstrated ability to translate complex data into actionable insights. Strong interest in data manipulation and data pipeline development. Experience with simple workflow automation and database familiarity Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and experience with at least one programming or data analytics language or tool (e.g., R, My(SQL), Python, Microsoft Access, Power BI), or a strong willingness to learn Understanding data management, data quality, and analytical workflows; experience with databases or automated data pipelines is a plus Experience with dairy farm management software (e.g., DairyComp 305, PCDART, DHIPlus, BoviSync, DelPro, Lely) is beneficial but not required Dairy Challenge experience preferred Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluent in English Willingness to learn and take feedback
