Program Summary
GCCS-J is the DoD's Joint Command and Control system of record, providing a fused, real-time operational picture to commanders and warfighters. The modernization effort emphasizes secure cloud-native architecture, microservices, advanced data ingestion, improved data integrity, and alignment with JADC2 objectives. Cybersecurity is foundational to this effort, ensuring all software, systems, and infrastructure meet stringent DoD security, accreditation, and operational resilience requirements.
Position Summary
The Cyber Security Engineer supports and/or leads cybersecurity, Information Assurance (IA), and Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities within classified GCCS-J development and integration environments. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards, supporting secure system configurations, performing vulnerability assessments, and contributing to accreditation efforts.
The engineer collaborates closely with developers, testers, ISSMs/ISSOs, and government stakeholders to secure SIPR-based environments and integrate security practices across the software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities IA & RMF Activities Support and/or lead RMF activities, including security control implementation and accreditation efforts Ensure compliance with DoD IA controls, DISA STIGs, SRGs, and security baselines SIPR Lab Security Operations Support secure operation of SIPR-based development and integration environments Perform system hardening, patching, and secure configuration management Security Validation & Vulnerability Management Conduct vulnerability scans, compliance checks, and security assessments Document findings, track remediation, and validate corrective actions Secure Software Engineering Support and guide secure coding practices and secure architecture design Review software, data flows, and system configurations for security risks DevSecOps Integration Integrate and support security tools within CI/CD pipelines Assist with automated scanning, compliance validation, and vulnerability detection Monitoring & Incident Response Monitor systems for security events and anomalies Support or lead incident response, triage, and mitigation activities Documentation & Compliance Reporting Maintain IA documentation, POA&Ms, and accreditation artifacts Support audits, security reviews, and CCRI preparation activities Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Work with cybersecurity teams, developers, testers, ISSOs/ISSMs, and government stakeholders Communicate risks, findings, and mitigation strategies clearly Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related STEM field Experience supporting cybersecurity or IA efforts within DoD environments Working knowledge of RMF, DISA STIGs, SRGs, and DoD cybersecurity policies Experience with vulnerability scanning tools such as ACAS, Nessus, Fortify, SonarQube, or similar Familiarity with Linux/UNIX and Windows system hardening Experience supporting secure software development and/or DevSecOps environments Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills Active Secret clearance Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting classified (SIPR or similar) environments Experience with C2 systems or mission-critical DoD platforms Familiarity with container security, Kubernetes, and OCI environments Experience with automation tools such as Ansible or similar frameworks Knowledge of SIEM tools, log analysis, and security monitoring Experience with network security, enclave protections, and cross-domain solutions Experience supporting DISA CCRI inspections or similar compliance efforts Desired Competencies Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams Clear and professional communication skills High attention to detail Proactive and mission-focused approach to cybersecurity
