*Job description*
As a Technical Architect working on digital obsolescence management, you’ll work with stakeholders across Defence and wider Government, to drive out obsolescence in MOD’s technology estate.
Obsolescence and legacy IT management applies to all digital technologies in Defence. You’ll gather and analyse obsolescence risk data, contribute to defining how we manage legacy technology and communicate best practice.
Working in Defence Digital’s Chief Technology Office (CTO), our team provides digital obsolescence direction and assurance across MOD, in collaboration with other government departments.
*Responsibilities*
* Contribute to the development of frameworks, strategies, policies and standards relating to digital obsolescence management.
* Gather and report on obsolescence risk data.
* Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to understand obsolescence problems.
* Contribute to defining how MOD’s IT and digital asset data is structured, collated and viewed.
* Ensure proposed solutions comply with security, governance and regulatory standards.
* Provide technical guidance and communicate best practice to teams across the digital function in MOD.
* Engage with obsolescence management professional groups and organisations.
*Person specification*
Please ensure that your CV and application meet the essential criteria below:
We would expect to see experience in technical architecture or a similar technical design role and of defining technical strategy or assurance activities, such as writing policy and standards or assessing and governing strategic risk.
You’ll be able to show experience of managing digital obsolescence or related experience gained in areas such as IT service management, asset management or through‑life support.
You’ll need:
* the skills to collaborate with stakeholders, providing direction and challenging when required.
* the ability to identify problems and clearly communicate to both technical and non-technical teams.
* ability to create compelling communications for a diverse range of stakeholders, utilising different styles, languages and formats.
If not held already, opportunity will be provided to gain the following when in post:
* TOGAF certification
* Open Agile Architecture™ Practitioner Certification
* ITIL certification
* Membership of the International Institute of Obsolescence Management

This post may be eligible for a Digital Skills Allowance of up to £11,400 per annum. Eligibility for this allowance will be assessed at interview against the 4 core technical skills only and reviewed annually in line with departmental policy.
This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (your permanent duty station, which is based on business assessment of where the work is best done) and working from home as a personal choice (if the role is suitable for this). If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post. Whilst embracing hybrid working, there is an expectation you will attend the office a minimum of 3 days a week.
