Job Overview:
The Software Engineering Manager will own delivery outcomes for one or more product teams at SILAC. This role is accountable for forecast accuracy, sprint discipline, release integrity, and team performance. The Engineering Manager serves as the single point of accountability for delivery commitments and ensures engineering execution aligns with business priorities while maintaining system stability and technical integrity. This role demands a strong balance between people leadership and operational execution. The ideal candidate is comfortable navigating cross-functional pressure, enforcing standards, making difficult trade-offs, and driving predictable results in a regulated, production-focused environment.
Job Details
What you'll do:
Leadership & Team Management Own delivery capability and forecast integrity for assigned teams. Directly manage a team of software engineers, ensuring growth, performance, and accountability. Serve as first-line escalation authority for delivery risks and cross-team blockers. Conduct performance management, coaching, and difficult accountability conversations when required. Allocate engineering capacity effectively in alignment with business priorities. Enforce sprint discipline, release hygiene, and engineering standards. Push back on scope or timeline changes when capacity or risk requires adjustment. Foster a culture of ownership, execution discipline, and operational awareness. Technical & Project Execution
Ensure engineering execution aligns with architectural standards and long-term system integrity. Maintain predictable sprint velocity and transparent risk reporting. Own delivery forecast accuracy and proactively manage deviation risk. Partner with Architecture to balance modernization efforts with delivery commitments. Identify and manage technical debt trade-offs that impact delivery stability. Ensure production systems remain stable through disciplined CI/CD and release practices. Lead incident response coordination for delivery-impacting events and drive root cause remediation. Culture & Process Improvement
Promote transparency, trust, and structured accountability. Drive continuous improvement in delivery predictability and operational stability. Establish and maintain clear risk reporting mechanisms. Improve engineering documentation, release discipline, and operational monitoring standards. Encourage proactive problem-solving and measurable performance improvement. Support diversity, inclusion, and a high-performance team culture. Job Requirements
Who you are:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field. 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 3-5+ years in a leadership role owning delivery outcomes. Demonstrated ownership of delivery commitments for production systems. Experience managing cross-functional pressure and balancing scope, timeline, and technical risk. Strong background in modern software development practices (CI/CD, Git, agile delivery). Experience leading teams responsible for systems with uptime or SLA commitments. Comfortable having difficult performance and accountability conversations. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, regulated environment. Desired:
Experience in financial services, insurance, or other regulated industries. Experience improving sprint predictability or operational stability metrics. Background in cloud-based or microservices architectures. Familiarity with incident management, observability tooling, and release governance. Experience scaling engineering teams in growth-stage organizations. What success looks like in 6 months:
Delivery forecasts are reliable within +/- two sprints. Escalations are handled at the EM level without routine Director intervention. Team performance issues are addressed proactively. Cross-functional conflicts are managed constructively and decisively.
