At Apple Orchard , we are dedicated to supporting adolescent males with complex needs stemming from early trauma. Our trauma-informed approach focuses on developing the whole person, empowering them to achieve their transitional milestones.
We are excited to invite a passionate One to One Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team! This full-time role runs Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 16:30, during term time only. While primarily based at one site, you may also support students at local PE venues and, eventually, in college settings.
Your ResponsibilitiesAs a vital member of our team, you will work closely with the Headteacher and class teachers to:
- Embrace and implement the therapeutic approach that defines the Apple Orchard environment.
- Support pupils in learning effectively, both individually and in groups, by:
- Clarifying and explaining instructions.
- Ensuring pupils can utilize provided equipment and materials.
- Motivating and encouraging students through personalized attention and support.
- Assist in areas where students may struggle, such as speech and language, reading, spelling, numeracy, and handwriting.
- Use praise and constructive feedback to help pupils focus and stay engaged.
- Collaborate with class teachers, SENCO, and other professionals on Individual Personal Education Plans (PEPs), contributing to planning and delivery.
- Provide additional nurture to individuals as requested by the class teacher or SENCO.
- Implement agreed behavior management strategies consistently and effectively.
- Build supportive relationships with the pupils you work with.
- Encourage acceptance and inclusion of pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), fostering positive interactions.
- Monitor pupils' responses to learning activities and adapt as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
To thrive in this role, you should possess:
- A minimum qualification of GCSE A-C or equivalent in Maths and English.
- A Level 3 or above Teaching Assistant qualification.
- An understanding of the challenges faced by students with Emotional, Behavioural, or Social needs.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a close-knit team.
- Desirable: Experience in a specialist environment.
