Job Summary
The Epic Business Intelligence (BI) Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining reporting and analytics solutions within Epic's Cogito suite. This role works closely with clinical, operational, and financial leaders to deliver accurate, actionable insights that support decision-making, regulatory reporting, and organizational performance. The BI Developer serves as a technical expert in Epic data structures, SQL development, BI tools, and data modeling.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Design and optimize Epic reports and dashboards; Develop SQL queries for Clarity and Caboodle; Build ETL processes and data pipelines; Create BI solutions for operational, clinical, financial, and quality reporting; Validate data accuracy; Troubleshoot discrepancies; Maintain documentation; Conduct requirements-gathering sessions; Participate in governance groups; Translate business needs into BI solutions; Develop and execute test plans; Monitor report performance; Support end users; Participate in go-lives and upgrades; Ensure compliance with HIPAA and security standards; Support regulatory reporting and audits.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in IT, analytics, computer science, healthcare, or related field (or equivalent experience); 2+ years in BI development, SQL, or data analysis; Proficiency in SQL and relational database concepts; Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills; Understanding of healthcare data or EHR systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Epic certifications (Cogito, Clarity, Caboodle, SlicerDicer); Experience with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, Crystal Reports; Experience with Epic reporting tools; Familiarity with data warehousing, ETL, and dimensional modeling; Prior experience in healthcare or Epic environment.
Physical Requirements
Standard office environment with hybrid work options; Occasional after-hours work; May involve lifting up to 15 lbs; Frequent interaction with clinical, operational, financial, and IT staff across the health system.
