The impact you will make in this role We are looking for a data scientist with a strong background in machine learning and computer vision to drive the development of advanced analytics solutions. The ideal candidate will have experience in system automation, software architecture/programming and integration with hard good devices like robotics. Here, you will make an impact by: Provide technical leadership for connected and digital programs in the largest business group within 3M Enable growth within the business group through new product development incorporating digital platforms Develop back-end and user-facing software as part of digital platforms for multiple divisions within the business group Collaborate with cross-divisional teams to define, develop, and deploy software and solutions in alignment with enterprise-wide standards and strategies Accelerate business and technology growth through the creation of algorithms, software and systems Lead intellectual property creation and protection for innovative and groundbreaking solutions Develop and implement machine learning models to solve complex problems. Analyze large datasets to extract meaningful insights and drive decision-making. Implement optimized analysis pipelines to process operational data and make informed based decisions. Design and optimize algorithms for image processing and computer vision applications. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate machine learning solutions into existing systems. Contribute to projects involving system automation and robotics, enhancing efficiency and performance. Your skills and expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications: Master's or Ph.D. in computer science, data science, statistics, or a related science field (completed and verified prior to start) Three (3) years of proven experience in machine learning, data analysis, and visual science in a private, public, government, or military environment. Three (3) years experience in programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB. Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: Two (2) years of experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure or GCP Experience with physics-informed neural networks (PINNs), hybrid modeling, and frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow or scikit-learn, focusing on application areas such as materials science, or digital twins. Strong understanding of computer vision techniques and image processing. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively. Experience leading through the ambiguity of early-stage R&D Understanding of intellectual property and the ability to monitor the state of the art Collaborative, self-motivated, self-directed, entrepreneurial, and customer-focused Experience in adapting commercially available LLMs and cloud AI platforms to solve complex challenges of our customers. Ability to architect deployment strategies to infrastructures, like edge or mobile devices. Experience in R&D of learned 3D reconstruction, depth prediction, feature matching, semantic segmentation, object 6-DoF pose and shape estimation Experience in R&D of learned visual representations and foundation models for robot manipulation Working knowledge of version control systems, e.g., Git Familiarity with DevOps tooling like GitHub, Git, Jenkins, Chef, Puppet Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.
