Data Engineering Leader

As a strategic and hands-on data engineering leader, you'll architect and optimize the enterprise data ecosystem that fuels real-time insights across more than 97 million annual tests. You'll guide a high-performing team in building scalable ELT pipelines, advancing Snowflake-based analytics, and shaping self-service intelligence platforms that drive operational excellence statewide. In close partnership with clinical and operational leaders, you'll translate complex laboratory workflows into predictive, cloud-driven solutions that strengthen quality, efficiency, and precision medicine. This position is responsible for designing and managing enterprise-scale data infrastructure and analytics solutions at Sonora Quest Laboratories. This position blends strategic oversight with direct execution, leveraging modern cloud technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Fivetran, Coalesce, Sigma) to deliver actionable insights that enhance operational efficiency, diagnostic accuracy, and patient care across Arizona's largest clinical laboratory network. This role is a hybrid opportunity based in Phoenix, AZ. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Typically supervises 3-5 data platform and analytics engineers. OE - Typical Office Environment Requires extensive sitting with periodic standing and walking. May be required to lift up to 20 pounds. Requires significant use of personal computer, phone and general office equipment. Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects. Ability to communicate effectively. May require off-site travel. Modern Data Stack Expertise: Hands-on experience with Snowflake, Fivetran, Coalesce, Sigma or equivalent modern data stack in healthcare or lab environments Programming & Analytics: Skilled in SQL, Python, and statistical analysis to build scalable models and performance tools Leadership & Communication: Proven ability to lead technical teams and present insights to clinical and executive stakeholders Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical field or equivalent professional experience demonstrating strong technical capability Five (5) years of hands-on data engineering experience working with modern cloud data platforms; experience in healthcare or laboratory data environments is a strong plus Five (5) years of experience building, scaling, and managing modern Business Intelligence or Analytics platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker, Sigma) Three (3) years of experience with Snowflake, Fivetran, and data transformation frameworks such as Coalesce or dbt (or comparable tools). Three (3) years leadership experience including managing direct reports with guiding technical teams, developing talent, and fostering a high-performance culture. Proven expertise in SQL, Python, and designing scalable cloud-based data architectures Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Data Science, Health Informatics, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field Experience standing up and managing data governance frameworks, including policies, metadata management, and data stewardship practices across enterprise environments Experience with laboratory information systems (Epic Beaker, Cerner, Meditech, Sunquest), quality management platforms, and diagnostic instrument data integration Hands-on experience with additional cloud platforms or services (AWS, Azure, or GCP) Background in Agile development methodologies and DevOps practices for laboratory and healthcare data systems Deep understanding of modern data-stack practices, including ELT/ETL design, data modeling, and data observability Additional related education and/or experience.
