Electrical Engineer – Renewable Energy Projects

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical Engineer to join a growing Engineering & Technology team working on large-scale commercial photovoltaic (PV) and renewable energy projects. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact renewable developments by delivering high-quality design, coordination, and engineering execution from early design through commissioning.

The Electrical Engineer will lead and support engineering activities across major renewable energy projects. This includes coordinating technical design, guiding onsite installation, and ensuring successful commissioning of electrical systems. The role requires a strong ability to troubleshoot technical issues, manage contractors, and ensure compliance with industry standards and project specifications.

• Conduct detailed electrical design reviews, highlighting gaps, risks, and deviations from specifications.
  
• Specify electrical components, including cable sizing and protection requirements.
  
• Apply value engineering principles to electrical designs to optimise performance and cost.
  
• Collaborate with design teams and supply chain partners to verify equipment performance before commissioning.
  
• Oversee specialist vendors during commissioning to ensure timely and compliant delivery of work.
  
• Complete electrical system walk-downs to verify installation quality and adherence to design and as-built documentation.
  
• Resolve technical issues promptly through structured assessment and engineering judgement.
  
• Prepare, compile, and submit electrical technical documentation and submittals.
  
• Track procurement, delivery, and installation progress for electrical equipment.
  
• Lead regular project progress meetings and maintain up-to-date system trackers aligned with project schedules.
  
• Work with BIM teams to ensure constructability and accuracy of electrical installation plans.
  
• Deliver client training on system operation and performance.

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent.
  
• Strong understanding of renewable energy and energy storage technologies, especially:
  
• Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  
• Experience designing HV grid connections, metering, and control systems associated with renewable and energy storage installations.
  
• Knowledge of grid requirements, including protection relays and compliance standards.
  
• Solid understanding of electrical plant and control systems (e.g., transformers, cables, circuit breakers, HV protection systems).
  
• 10+ years’ project engineering experience with an electrical contractor or consultancy.
  
• Experience working with LV and MV electrical systems.
  
• Proven background delivering medium-to-large electrical projects—ideally in renewable, commercial, industrial, or pharmaceutical sectors.
  
• Previous hands-on experience with renewable project delivery (PV, BESS, generator systems).
  
• Excellent commercial awareness and ability to balance technical and cost considerations.
  
• Ability to perform detailed system walk-downs to verify compliance.
  
• Strong understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental systems and regulations.
  
• High level of IT proficiency.
  
• Experience mentoring graduate engineers.
  
• Strong teamwork, communication, and client-facing skills. xcfaprz
