We're hiring a Network Engineer for a 6-month contract-to-hire with a global aerospace and defense company in Annapolis, MD. This role focuses on engineering and supporting Linux-based and networked systems in high-availability environments. If you have strong technical communication skills, Linux expertise, and networking knowledge, this is a solid opportunity with a clear path to permanent employment. The Details: 6-month contract-to-hire Onsite 5 days/week in Annapolis, MD Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm core hours Engineer and support Linux-based and networked systems requiring 100% availability Automate, script, and manage configuration across the full system development life cycle Design, implement, and maintain secure, reliable infrastructure Communicate technical designs clearly to both business and technical audiences Create and interpret technical design artifacts and documentation Manage shifting priorities independently and meet deadlines Support infrastructures with high availability requirements What You Need: Bachelor's degree in STEM or related field (required) 5+ years of engineering experience through all phases of the SDLC Strong technical communication skills ability to articulate ideas in both business and technical terms (verbal and written) Operator-level Linux working knowledge minimum, administrator-level preferred Familiarity with Linux deployment technologies (dnf, apt, rpm) Experience with Git repositories and configuration management tools Scripting proficiency: Shell, Python, Ruby, Bash Basic understanding of SQL Understanding of high availability concepts and application to server/network environments Knowledge of IP networks, routing, switching, and security Attention to detail and experience implementing infrastructures requiring 100% uptime Ability to use independent judgment and adapt to changing priorities Nice to Have: Working knowledge of automation and configuration management tools (Ansible) Understanding of formal configuration management processes Knowledge of WebGUI configuration and custom dashboards Active CCNA (desired after hire, not required)
