Electrical Design / Controls Engineer
Industrial Automation | Greater Manchester | Package inc bonus + profit share
An established industrial automation business in the Greater Manchester area is looking to recruit an Electrical Design Engineer to support the delivery of control systems and automation projects.
The company designs and upgrades industrial control systems, builds electrical control panels and delivers automation solutions for sectors including process industries, manufacturing and food production.
This role will appeal to engineers who enjoy working on complete automation systems, from electrical design through to installation and commissioning.
The role
The position is primarily focused on electrical design for control panels and automation systems, working closely with the software and automation engineers within the business.
Responsibilities include:
• Electrical design of industrial control panels • Producing electrical schematics and documentation • Supporting panel builds within the electrical workshop • Occasional customer liaison and site visits • Working alongside software engineers delivering PLC-based systems
Electrical design is currently carried out using 2D AutoCAD, however the company is open to introducing EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical or similar depending on the preference of the incoming engineer.
For engineers with an interest in controls, there is also opportunity to be involved in panel testing, PLC commissioning and system upgrades.
Engineering environment
Projects typically involve:
• Control panels up to 400V • Drives up to 250–800A • PLC based control systems • Retrofit upgrades to existing automation equipment • Industrial automation systems used in manufacturing and processing environments
Automation platforms used across projects include:
Siemens Allen-Bradley Mitsubishi Omron SCADA systems
This makes the role well suited to both Electrical Design Engineers and Controls / PLC Engineers who enjoy working on real industrial systems.
Travel
Most projects are located within approximately a 60-mile radius, so engineers generally return home the same day.
Occasional installations may involve short site visits or shutdown work, with time off in lieu provided for any weekend work.
Salary and benefits
£45-55k base salary
Strong candidates slightly outside this range are still encouraged to apply.
Additional benefits include:
• Bonus / monthly profit share scheme • 25 days holiday + bank holidays (increasing to 30 with service) • Pension contribution • Overtime / time-off-in-lieu scheme
Working hours
Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 5:00pm Friday: 8:00am – 4:00pm
