About

Main Purpose of the Job: 

The Mechanic supports residential construction and operations by inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient performance in compliance with Red Seal Occupational Standards. 


Location: Klemtu, BC

Wage: $50 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems, vehicles, machinery, and construction equipment 
  • Perform preventative, routine, and scheduled maintenance on vehicles, machinery, tools, and operational equipment 
  • • Disassemble, repair, replace, and reassemble mechanical components including engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and mechanical systems 
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, service bulletins, and technical drawings to perform repairs accurately 
  • Use precision measuring instruments, diagnostic tools, and testing equipment to assess mechanical performance 
  • Identify worn, damaged, or malfunctioning parts and recommend corrective actions or replacements 
  • Test equipment and vehicles after repair to ensure proper operation, performance, and safety compliance 
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, hoists, jacks, and shop equipment safely and effectively 
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used 
  • Follow all occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies 
  • Assist with equipment installation, alignment, setup, and commissioning of new machinery 
  • Monitor equipment condition and report potential failures or safety concerns 
  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas 
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with operations staff and project teams to minimize downtime 
  • Communicate equipment status, repair timelines, and technical issues clearly to supervisors and team members 
  • Support reliability programs, preventative maintenance planning, and continuous improvement initiatives 
  • Provide guidance and support to apprentices or junior mechanics when required 

Qualifications:  

  • Red Seal Mechanic certification required 
  • Marine experience is mandatory – must have prior experience working on marine vessels or equipment 
  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, components, and preventative maintenance practices 
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals 
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment 
  • Familiarity with hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision   
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions as part of a team  
  • Must supply own hand tools and required PPE  
  • Ability to work in a remote location and coastal weather conditions.  
  • Zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol while on shift.   
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to learning.   
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.   
  • Valid driver’s license is required. 

Working Conditions:  

  • Primary work location is Klemtu, British Columbia. 
  • Work is performed primarily on active residential construction sites with exposure to weather, noise, dust, and physical hazards. 
  • Strict compliance with occupational health and safety requirements is mandatory, and PPE must be worn at all times. 
  • Compensation is provided on a blended wage rate basis; overtime does not apply. 
  • Meals and bunkhouse accommodation are provided. 
  • Employee benefits are available following a ninety (90) day probationary period.
