SINGLE FAMILY OFFICE OVERVIEW
This role will be an integral part of NFO’s Single Family Office team. This team serves UHNW clients that form some of Canada’s wealthiest families. This client segment has complex needs that require the team to regularly interact with external advisory groups across various functions. In addition to investment management, the team also manages unique asset classes like yachts, sports teams, artwork, and other high-value collectibles. The right candidate will be able to function in a dynamic and high-touch environment with the goal of offering highly personalized client service.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Associate serves as a key member of the Single-Family Office team and plays a vital role in the following areas:
Financial Reporting & Analysis: Preparing monthly dashboards, quarterly consolidated net worth reporting, and various ad-hoc reporting schedules
Client Knowledge and Advisor Coordination: Serve as the contact for external advisors, providing timely, accurate information. Maintain expert knowledge of the client’s affairs and where all supporting documentation is stored.
Ad-hoc Requests: Support on a wide range of special projects, including financial analytics, or other project specific analyses.
This position requires meticulous attention to detail, extremely strong organizational skills and time management, and the ability to effectively communicate with various stakeholders.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare quarterly financial reports and monthly dashboards
- Compile investment dashboards, track cash and investment activity, and forecast short‑term cash need
- Review and analyze expense trackers for accuracy, and to identify trends and variances.
- Review financial deliverables (such as expense trackers, tax-slip packages, bookkeeping records, and related schedules)
Client Knowledge and Advisor Coordination:
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the client’s structures, priorities, and transaction history, and act as the subject-matter expert on the location, organization, and context of all supporting documentation.
- Work as the point of contact with external professional advisors, ensuring all information requests are addressed promptly and accurately.
- Coordinating accounting and tax compliance processes, working closely with external bookkeepers and accountants to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Reviewing investment communication from third-parties and initiate action as needed
- Collaborate cross-functionally to maintain complete, accurate and up to date records of client and investment information
Ad-hoc Requests:
- Provide ad-hoc assistance on various projects
- Examples include cash forecasts, personal spending burn rate analysis, currency forecasting, art inventory tracking
- Manage KYC requests with banks, regulators, advisors
- Oversee and track client philanthropy (track donations, budgets, reporting)
RELEVANT BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:
- CPA designation and or in final stages of their CPA with 3 years+ of Accounting and Finance experience.
- Knowledge and experience in the areas of investment management and tax (personal, trust, and corporate)
- Self-starter with a high level of initiative, capable of working independently while contributing to team success in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Commitment to continuous learning, with a desire to contribute across several disciplines.
