A leading federal general contractor is actively hiring a Federal Construction Project Manager to support ongoing and upcoming projects across San Diego. This position requires hands-on experience managing federal construction efforts for agencies such as NAVFAC, USACE, NPS, BOR, or the VA. Candidates must already reside in the San Diego area. Compensation up to $140K.
This role is responsible for full lifecycle management of federal construction, renovation, and repair projects valued up to $20M. The ideal individual is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable operating within federal standards, compliance frameworks, and contract requirements. You will oversee schedules, budgets, subcontractors, and project documentation while maintaining strong communication with government clients.
Primary Duties
• Manage federal construction projects from kickoff through final closeout
• Act as the main liaison for federal clients (NAVFAC, USACE, NPS, BOR, VA)
• Provide leadership to field and office teams including Superintendent, QCM, SSHO, and Coordinators
• Create and maintain detailed project schedules and milestones
• Build and manage project budgets with strict cost oversight
• Coordinate labor, equipment, and material requirements
• Handle procurement of materials and subcontractors in accordance with federal guidelines
• Monitor subcontractor performance, quality, and contract execution
• Oversee safety compliance and uphold federal safety protocols
• Implement quality control processes and ensure all inspections and certifications are completed
• Deliver ongoing reporting and communication to stakeholders and clients
• Utilize Microsoft 365 for project documentation and internal communication
• Manage workflows, documents, and subcontractors through Procore
• Use USACE RMS for documentation and reporting on USACE projects
Required Background
• Minimum 5+ years managing construction projects within federal contracting
• Demonstrated experience delivering projects for NAVFAC, USACE, NPS, BOR, or VA
• Strong leadership overseeing Superintendent, QCM, SSHO, and project support staff
• Civil construction and tenant improvement experience
• Solid understanding of federal specifications, compliance requirements, and construction standards
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Procore, and USACE RMS
• Ability to manage multiple federal projects simultaneously
• Excellent communication and client-facing abilities
• Valid California Driver’s License; must be able to operate a company vehicle
Preferred Credentials
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or similar field
• CPMP or comparable project management certification
• OSHA 30 certification
• Familiarity with LEED practices and sustainability principles
