About The Role
As a Staff Data Engineer on the Data Platform team, you will play a key leadership role in developing the core data systems and applications that power Veho's Analytics and AI workloads. Your work will focus on building efficient, cost-effective data tools that empower stakeholders across the business. You will drive the architecture and development of critical initiatives, including: new tooling for enforcing data contracts between teams, overhauling our event-to-warehouse data pipelines, a new data catalog, new testing and data sampling tooling, and upgrading our vendor data integrations. Your impact will be direct and tangible, shaping the tools and features used daily by both HQ and Ground Operations.
Reporting to the Tech Lead Manager of the Data Platform Team, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure our data platform not only meets but exceeds standards for engineering quality, reliability, and performance.
Responsibilities Include: Architecting, building, testing, and deploying data tools that empower engineering teams to move quickly without compromising operational goals Modifying designs and specifications of complex applications Collaborating and adding value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions Working with technical and non-technical end-users, other engineers, and product managers in a cross-functional, quick-moving, and collaborative environment Analyzing code, requirements, system risks, and software reliability and providing recommendations on how to leverage our technology more efficiently Acting as a player-coach alongside Engineering peers, to build high-quality software efficiently while also fostering team growth through mentorship and collaboration Tech Stack: DBT, Databricks, Kinesis, EMR, Sigma, Airflow, Iceberg, Pulumi What You Bring:
8+ years of experience building, testing, and deploying backend applications and distributed data systems. Deep understanding of distributed systems, and how they can go wrong. You dream in DAGs. Martin Kleppman permanently on your bedside table. Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code systems like Terraform, AWS CDK, or Pulumi. Excited to mentor and lead a small but extremely capable team. Enthusiastic about working closely with cross-functional team members to develop creative solutions to novel problems
