POSITION PURPOSE
This role combines data engineering, business intelligence, and analytics to deliver data-driven solutions for the credit union. The Analytics Engineer designs and builds data pipelines, develops dimensional models, creates Power BI reports and dashboards, and translates business requirements into technical solutions. This position emphasizes hands-on SQL Server development and BI delivery (80%) while providing platform support (20%) to ensure data quality, performance, and reliability. The role requires self-management of projects from requirements gathering through deployment, collaborating with business and technical stakeholders across the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Data Engineering and Integration
Design and build data pipelines using SQL Server, SSIS, and other tools to ingest, transform, and load data from diverse sources Develop and maintain data models (e.g., star schema, snowflake schema) to support analytics and reporting Build and enhance stored procedures, views, and SQL code to deliver business and project data requests Modify existing code (procedures, views, staging logic) to add columns, fixjoins, or improve performance Integrate data from APIs and external systems, ensuring consistency and quality Maintain and harden existing SQL Server Integration Services packages for reliability including logging and automated error recovery Optimize data infrastructure and queries for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency Keep database objects and job scripts in source control and participate in CI/CD deployment processes Support AI/ML initiatives by preparing and structuring data for machine learning models and LLM applications Research and prototype AI/ML solutions including natural language query interfaces, semantic layer technologies, and LLM applications for credit union analytics Business Intelligence Development
Design and develop reports, dashboards, and visualizations in Power BI to meet business needs Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into data and reporting solutions Build Power BI datasets and implement DAX calculations to enhance reporting capabilities Ensure consistency and usability of visualizations through adherence to established design standards Gather requirements directly from business stakeholders and design solutions independently Provide technical support to analysts and end users, assisting with the use of data and reports Mentor business unit personnel on data understanding, report structure, and dashboard usage SQL Platform Support
Review, debug, and optimize T-SQL stored procedures and functions using execution plans and Dynamic Management Views (DMVs) Design and maintain indexing strategies including clustered, non-clustered, and filtered indexes Manage statistics, mitigate parameter sniffing, and optimize temp db usage Support SQL Server Agent jobs, schedules, and automation tasks Monitor key data quality indicators and alerts for priority tables; perform root cause analysis and drive corrective actions Implement and tune monitoring and alerting for performance and job health Write clear runbooks, documentation, and technical specifications Collaboration and Communication
Partner with business and technical teams to identify opportunities to leverage data for decision-making Communicate effectively with Security, Infrastructure, Analytics, and Data Governance teams Maintain documentation for data pipelines, models, and reporting assets to promote team collaboration Project Management
Lead and self-manage medium-sized data and analytics projects involving multiple business and technical stakeholders using Azure Boards and agile sprint methodology Coordinate with cross-functional teams to define project scope, timelines, and deliverables Manage competing priorities and communicate project status to stakeholders and leadership Compliance and Security
Ensure all data engineering and analytics activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal standards Implement and maintain data security practices to safeguard sensitive information Maintain compliance with FSCU's established policies, procedures, and applicable regulations including BSA, AML, MIP, and OFAC Continuous Improvement
Stay current on emerging tools, technologies, and best practices in data engineering and analytics Identify opportunities to streamline data workflows and improve data accessibility for business users Explore and experiment with emerging AI/ML technologies including LLMs and their applications to credit union data and analytics
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or minimum 5 years of equivalent work experience.

Expert-level SQL Server 2022 knowledge including T-SQL, performance tuning, execution plans, and indexing strategies
SSIS development and deployment including error handling, logging, and package reliability
Power BI development including datasets, DAX calculations, and visualization best practices
Dimensional modeling (star schema, snowflake schema) and ETL processes
Data security practices including PII protection and safeguarding sensitive member information
Credit union products, services, and core banking systems (Symitar/ARCU strongly preferred)
experience required: Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with SQL Server development, SSIS, and Power BI in a data engineering, analytics engineering, or business intelligence role
skills/abilities:
Diagnose and resolve database performance issues using execution plans, indexes, query analysis, and SQL Server monitoring tools
Gather requirements from stakeholders and translate business needs into technical solutions
Self-manage projects from requirements through design, development and deployment with minimal supervision

Strong interpersonal skills with ability to mentor analysts and collaborate across departments
