We are seeking a mid-level Project Manager who can lead projects from award through closeout while protecting margin, schedule, and execution quality.

Position Overview

The Project Manager is responsible for the successful execution of heavy civil construction projects from contract award through final completion. This role requires a strong understanding of field operations, cost control, subcontractor coordination, and client communication.

The right candidate understands that project success is driven by proactive planning, disciplined cost management, and close coordination between office and field teams.

You will work closely with executive leadership, estimating, superintendents, accounting, and subcontractors to deliver profitable and well-executed projects.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

  • Review contract documents, plans, and specifications
  • Develop project work plans and execution strategies
  • Coordinate with Superintendents to align production and schedule
  • Lead internal kickoff meetings
  • Monitor project milestones and performance benchmarks

A strong understanding of how work is sequenced and executed in the field is essential.

Financial Management & Cost Control

  • Develop and manage project budgets
  • Track job costs and production against estimate
  • Manage cost codes and forecasting
  • Prepare monthly cost projections and margin reviews
  • Identify and address cost overruns proactively
  • Protect project profitability

Subcontractor & Vendor Management

  • Negotiate and issue subcontracts
  • Review and approve subcontractor pay applications
  • Manage subcontractor performance and scope compliance
  • Resolve disputes and coordinate corrective actions
  • Maintain strong trade partner relationships

Schedule & Risk Management

  • Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules
  • Identify potential risks and mitigation strategies
  • Manage change orders and contract modifications
  • Evaluate impacts to cost and schedule Client & Stakeholder Communication
  • Serve as primary point of contact for owners and consultants
  • Attend progress meetings
  • Maintain professional communication with public agencies (ODOT, municipalities, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements

Documentation & Project Closeout

  • Manage submittals and RFI processes
  • Oversee billing coordination with accounting
  • Ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping
  • Coordinate project closeout and final documentation

Qualifications Required :

  • 3–7 years Project Management experience in heavy civil or highway construction
  • Strong understanding of field operations and production
  • Experience managing budgets and cost forecasting
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Excel

Preferred :

  • ODOT or public infrastructure project experience
  • Field experience in heavy civil construction
  • Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree
  • Experience with ERP or job cost accounting systems
