System Engineer -
BDE duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to: • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and technology needs. • Design and architect systems and network solutions to meet those requirements. • Plan hardware and software upgrades or migrations. • Install and configure hardware and software components, including servers, operating systems, and network devices. • Set up and maintain virtualization technologies like VMware or Hyper-V. • Deploy and configure cloud services, if applicable (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). • Manage and maintain servers, storage, and network infrastructure. • Create and manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls. • Implement security policies and procedures to protect data and systems. • Design, configure, and maintain network architecture, including routers, switches, and firewalls. • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues. • Implement network security measures to safeguard against cyber threats. • Monitor system performance, including CPU, memory, and storage usage. • Analyze system logs and performance data to identify and resolve bottlenecks or issues. • Optimize system resources for efficiency and scalability. • Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery plans. • Implement regular data backups and test recovery procedures. • Ensure business continuity in case of system failures or disasters. • Install software and security updates on servers and network devices. • Test and schedule updates to minimize disruptions to the organization. • Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, network diagrams, and procedures. • Keep records of software licenses and hardware inventory. • Provide technical support to end-users and other IT staff. • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues. • Assist with user training on systems and applications. • Work closely with other IT professionals and departments to ensure technology aligns with business goals. • Communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders. • Enforce security best practices, policies, and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA). • Conduct security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities. • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies. • Evaluate and recommend new technologies that can benefit the organization. • Standard 40/hr. work week; hybrid work options are available.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities • Operating Systems: Proficiency in various operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and possibly others.
Networking: A strong understanding of network protocols, routing, and switching. • Server Administration: Experience in managing servers, both physical and virtual (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V). • Scripting and Automation: Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) and automation tools (e.g., Ansible) to streamline tasks. • Database Management: Familiarity with database systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL). • Cloud Services: Understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and cloud-based services. • Cybersecurity: An awareness of cybersecurity principles and best practices to protect systems from threats. • Firewalls and Intrusion Detection/Prevention: Proficiency in configuring and managing security appliances and tools. • Security Policies and Compliance: Knowledge of security policies, compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA), and the ability to enforce them. • Hardware Maintenance: Ability to troubleshoot and maintain physical hardware components. • Storage Solutions: Understanding of various storage technologies (e.g., SAN, NAS). • Virtualization: Proficiency in virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, KVM). • Network Design: Ability to design and implement network architectures. • Network Troubleshooting: Skills to diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues. • IP Addressing and Subnetting: Knowledge of IP addressing, subnetting, and DNS. • Load Balancing: Understanding of load balancing solutions for web servers and applications. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex technical issues. • Effective communication skills to interact with team members, management, and end-users. • Collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and vendors. • Thorough documentation skills to maintain records of configurations, network diagrams, and procedures. • The ability to plan, execute, and manage IT projects, ensuring they meet deadlines and objectives. • The capability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and changing IT environments. • Strong time management skills to balance multiple tasks and priorities effectively. • Understanding of how IT systems align with an organization's business goals and objectives. • A commitment to staying up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field; Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, Systems Engineering (equivalent experience may be considered); and • Five or more years of system architecture and design. • Experience with designing and managing complex systems. • Project management skills and experience with leading and managing projects. • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues.
